Beginner August 2010

Hellooooooo!

Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie getting married on 20th August (just over 4 months - eek!) and really wanted some honest opinions about something please?

My h2b and I are really undecided what to do about our evening entertainment. We have found a band that we like and who are free on our date but they will cost £2200. Our alternative is to hire a jukebox which will look cool, save on space and make us more in control of the music available and that would cost around £650. I love the idea of live music to get things going but we're struggling to justify the expense.

Soooo, what would you do/did you do?

Thanks in advance x

Hi lynziloo, welcome to hitched Smiley smile

I guess it depends how important live music is to you, we contemplated having a band but decided that we'd rather spend the money on other things (like the photographer and videographer packages etc because they were going to be permanent reminders of the day) than on the music. I think a jukebox is a great idea and will give you a good amount of control so you can have exactly what you want.

But then, I'm not too bothered about the difference between live/non-live music, I know to some people it's a really important part of the day.

    HI

Love the idea of a Jukebox - sounds really funky and then you or other people are in control of the music.

We were looking at a band, but after adding up all other expenses, we thought the party will be good with a DJ. Sometimes a band can be too loud, really depends on your venue and the crowd that are going.

I really wanted a band for our wedding & was lucky enough to find a great 3 piece band for £800. However much I loved it I don't think I could have strectched the budget as far as £2000. But you know your budget better than anyone else & if you want a band that much & can afford it then do it. Retro juke box sounds like a great idea though.

Actually that reminds me of another point - as Irishbride says sometimes bands can be quite loud, and our venue said they have a noise limitation because they're in quite a small little village/hamlet and they've been given a noise limit on any band or DJ that can play there. I'm guessing it's probably easier to turn jukeboxes/DJs down than live bands so it might be worth checking with your venue first whichever way you go.

Hmm good point about the volume, won't be a prob for the venue as set in own grounds but it's not a huge room and I can just see it now...

    "Wanna drink Auntie?"

    "No I've just been dear"

    "I said wanna drink?!"

"No thanks dear, I'm just going to get a drink"....

Hmmm I must admit I am leaning towards the Jukebox idea. Plus only £50 deposit as opposed to £1100 for the band!

Hi lynziloo I am also getting married on 20th Aug how exciting!!! I would say the band is on the expensive side, we r having a live band and they r costing £600 for the evening. However if your heart is set on a band I would go for it or risk regretting your decision you only get married once!!!!
