help!

pink & glitz, 5 January, 2014 at 18:38 Posted on Planning 0 3

Hi, I have decided to make my own invitations. I am artistic so fine with that but the bit I am going to struggle with is the writing as invites are normally printed. Is anyone else making invites? If so are you using a normal printer? I am looking to have a design like a postcard with diamante, also need to include our gift list info too, maybe on a separate piece of paper. Any help or advice is much appreciated. I have 5 months to make them xx

I made all the stationery for my wedding, pocket fold design with inserts, orders of service, menus etc.

All printed at home on my little Kodak printer, I left a space to write names and just hand wrote them. I can't remember the last time I saw a name printed on an invitation.

We're using printed.com - our engagement invites came and were perfect and you can download Adobe Illustrator templates and other stuff too - we did an A6 postcard on textured paper. You could stick the gems on when they arrive perhaps, and print the inserts yourself?

    Hello,

It;s desperately easy to print all the names on, I did it. You would have to print all the cards, using a Mail Merge - more than happy to proved you the templates and a "how to" guide if you want it, Then put all the diamantes on after the print was finished.

I did all my own (admittedly only 20 couples invited), on a HP inkjet. Each finished invite had a printed invite card which stuck on the pocket fold, with 3 double sided inserts. ( a) RSVP, b)Extra Info (including gift list) & c) All about the day and the venue).

Setting up the template was fairly easy, then you just need an excel spreadsheet with all the names and addresses, press the mail merge button and it produces an individual sheet to be printed for each of your invited guests. Even the RSVP had peoples names pre printed on them.

Printing mine too a couple of evenings, because I'd press print, then go make the dinner, turn the cards over press print again (for double sided), then go watch telly for a bit.

SUPER EASY - BUT.... if I did it again I would start with NEW official printer cartridges though. I printed mine with an old "fake" cartridge and the ink bled a bit (OH thought they looked fine but I'm really picky). Printed the evening invites after changing to real ink, and they looked AWESOME by comparison. Luckily no one got both invites to compare!

My printer didn't really like the thick card, and consistently printed 2mm to the left, so I was able to modify the margins, and get all the words lined up on the page.

All the RSVP's had our address printed on the back too, so people could tick, stick and stamp on and pop in the post.

I printed all mine too and included names (although I only have 13 couples for the day and haven't started on the evening invites yet!) It was really easy to do, once I had everything in the right position. I just used Word and set each part in tables of the right dimensions - dead simple! Just a normal home printer too.
