HELP! Blinging shoes :) Whose doing their own??

Flamin Nora, 7 May, 2011 at 15:08 Posted on Planning 0 5

I have been looking at some swarovski covered shoes for the evening of our wedding, but they are soooo expensive!

I remember seeing someone on here who was doing their own.....Anyone remember who? OR is it you? Want to know how to!!

I'm doing my own - see https://www.hitched.co.uk/Chat/forums/p/215135/2107261.aspx#2107261 for a thread I posted ages ago?

Other Hitchers are doing it too, and everyone seems to be having really brilliant results!!!

good luck with it, and don't forget to flash

I'm doing my own and my bridesmaids too. I made a test pair recently:

Some tips hat i've found through trial & error:

    • E6000 glue is better than a glue gun.
    • Using a mixure of 3mm and 4mm stones looks most effective (IMO)
    • Kandi Kane applicator guns will make the job a lot easier, but I don't think the glue is as strong and have found that gems randomly pop off, especially as the shoes get more worn and the fabric gives. I lost enough gems for it to be noticeable. Argh.

    Enjoy!

The E6000 self-levels and after 72 hours the gems will not budge. My niece wore the pink ones I posted to a wacky warehouse party- so they took a lot of wear and tear and only one gem fell off.

That glue gives you a terror of a headache though, use it in a well ventilated area!

Shoes can be an absolute fortune - and d'you know, I don't think people even look at your feet!! On the DIY shoe front - I bought some v pretty, simple, kitten heels second hand off e-bay (£6) and when I was looking for shoeclips it occured to me I had the perfect pair of clip on earrings that I could use instead. They are huge round 60s ones with pearls and diamontes so they look just right on the shoes. V pleased!! Better than paying £100 for shoes.
