Help! Colour options!

Kez1302, 23 July, 2014 at 20:18 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hi! Me and my h2b have just booked our wedding. It isn't until feb 2016 but we are really struggling on a colour scheme! We have a slight irish theme but not too sure on a green colour :-/ h2b likes mocha but I just don't know! Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!

You could have a more muted green, rather than the bright green usually associated with St Patrick's Day?

Or, if you're stuck, do you have to have a colour scheme at all? You may find a lot of things just go together naturally as part of your theme, and there's nothing wrong with not sticking to just one or two colours. I'm just having a general pastel scheme (BMs in different pastel-coloured dresses, flowers & decorations in a range of colours etc), and I'm finding it opens me up to a lot of flexibility in terms of flowers, dresses, venue decor etc that I wouldn't have if I were worrying about finding things in particular colours.

I was also struggling with this one, but chose ours after browsing this website which I found quite useful as I had no idea which colours would compliment each other:

Do you have a pinterest account? If not, set one up and browse weddings. There are more ideas than I know what to do with Smiley smile

Do you have to stick with just one? Brown and green go very well together, you could use both? As others have said Pinterest and just searching for inspiration will help. I think I personally would find it quite limiting sticking to just one colour.

Have you tried Hitched inspiration section as well! You can search by colour.

    Good luck Smiley smile

In addition to what others have said (I'm another one whose bridesmaids' dresses dictated the colours) does your venue give you any help at all? I don't mean people making suggestions, I mean things like what colour is their decor (curtains, carpets etc). Might not help you pick THE colour, but will give you things to avoid.

In terms of the time of year, bear in mind that the quality of the light may affect colours - some paler colours can look washed out in wintery light (I would think mocha would be ok, but pale green might be risky) .

I was set on blues as my engagement ring has sapphires in it and I planned to base it all around that, but the bridesmaids dresses just didn't work and we ended up going for teal in the end! So I now have teal bridesmaids and chair sashes, and hot pink flowers, with the same colour on the cake flowers, and a pink ribbon for the car! Don't rush yourself into finding a colour, it'll happen Smiley smile

You dont need to pick a colour right away. Initially I thought I wanted purple, but aftet browsing weddings and the like, I fell in love with a range of autumny colours! Just remember, you dont have to have one block colour, you can have as many as you like!! Look for some inspiriation of what type of dress, invites, flowers you like and then work from there, the colour scheme will just fall into place :-)
