Help - cracked lips!

sara252, 4 February, 2009 at 11:36 Posted on Planning 0 15

I've got really sore cracked lips. ☹️ I've had them for a few weeks, keep thinking they've clearerd up and then the crack again!

Can anyone recommend anything to help - I'm getting married in 3 weeks and the way they are going H2B isn't going to want to kiss me!

Anyone got any suggestions? I know avoiding the stupid air-con / heating system at work would help, but can't really do that.

Has anyone got any sugestions for any good creams, etc? ATM I've got Carmex, but it's not working!

Sx

I use Blistex daily lip conditioning lip balm (in the little pot not the stick) and it's very good. If my lips ever crack I use Blistex intensive moisturiser.

Blistex intensive cream in the tube is AMAZING!

I snowboard a lot so I get really dry lips especially when i'm on the mountain and its one of my essentials. Riding all day in -15 wind chills sometimes and I get coldsores very easily so I had to find something good

I find that Vaseline actually dries my lips out more if I stop using it.

Carmex is the best product I've found for this - soothes as well as hydrates and on the first application too. I got it for my wedding and have been using it ever since!

Oh just seen you've got carmex but none of the others worked for me. I must admit though that sometimes I do need to really smother it on and leave it for a couple of minutes before taking off the excess but that is quite rarely. The only other one is Bobbi Brown's one but it was £16 last time I bought it.

I use Norwegian formula in a chap stick. But also dry lips is a key sign to de-hydration, it's one of the first places it effects properly. Since I found this out if I get dry lips I up my intake of water, and it does make a difference.

    Hi!

I would say if all the normal lipbalms aren't working, try the Eliz Arden 8 hour cream. Think they now do a lip balm in the range but I always found the original one worked great. It is a bit more expensive than most things but I would nearly guarentee that it'll work. Once your lips are well healed up, get an old toothbrush & a bit of vaseline & give them an exfoliation too - just not every day!!! You'll end up with really smooth kissable lips!! ?

    Hi

Body shop do a lip buffer exfolient, looks like a lipsil with walnut shell in to take off any dead skin, then I use Vaseline intensive care moisturiser - it tastes horrble, but does the job!

Hope you find something that works!

I am a huge fan of burt's bees lip balm, especially this time of the year. But if you are having seriously cracked lips, I would ask the chemist at Boots if they can direct you to something that contains lanoline, which will help to actually penetrate and heal.

edit,, just looked up my fav, and it does contain lanoline, no wonder I love it.

I second this one. I have always suffered with dry cracked lips. So much so that during the winter they were so red I had a permanent red moustache! I always keep vaseline in my bag all year round but the Blistex Intensive moisturiser is a must during the winter!

This might sound a bit gross but I brush mine with an old toothbrush and then put aloe vera vasceline on them! I'm sure he'll want to kiss you anyway, however your lips look ;oP

    Hi

I seconf the old toothbrush trick - I find if you run the toothbrush under some warm water 1st and then gently rub along your lips and then lather in vasaline (or the equivilent) it really works - and my make up lady told me the same thing when I asked if there was anything better that I should do.

H2b bought me some of this for Christmas, it's lovely and is really good for getting rid of flaky bits https://www.bnevertoobusytobebeautiful.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&option=com_virtuemart&product_id=843

I get really hideously dry cracked lips and the only thing that has ever worked for me is Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream. I also use it when I get dry elbows and heels and to moisturise my cuticles. It works miracles on sore lips though http://www.boots.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10052&productId=9783&callingViewName=&langId=-1&catalogId=10551
