Help desperately needed - dress problem with 4 weeks to go :(

28/07/12bride, 30 June, 2012 at 19:48 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hi ladies,

Today I went for my 2nd dress fitting, and when they were doing it up I could tell it wasn't fitting properly!

I have got so much back fat and a back bum it looks awful!! The dress fitted when I went for my fitting a few weeks ago but was massive on the bodice (I have always been 1 size bigger on bottom than on top) so they have taken it in. But no I have got a terrible overspill, there is no way I would feel comfortable in it!!

When I had my veil on its not too bad as hides it but I really don't want to wear my veil all day, I suppose I could get a cover up or something. But, again didn't really want to wear something extra all day, not so bad if its cool weather but if it's hot, it'll be awful. Plus my dress is blush in colour, so I then come up against the issue of finding something that will go with that!!

I am a size 12/14 so not huge and am fortunate enough to be able to lose weight pretty quickly if I put my mind to it (put it on as quick as it comes off though lol!!), so will start a low carb diet tomoro,I am booked to go back to the dress shop next Saturday morning (the day of my hen do!) to try it on again as I am having a massage and wrap thing on Friday (you can apparently lose up to 4 inches with one of these things!) and see if that has made any difference, but am not holding out much hope!

So, do any of u lovely lot have any suggestions for quick fixes/ or cover up/ bolero type thing? My dress is a blush satin a line

I can't believe this has happened, have been in years over it most of today and at a total loss as to what to do.

I was told of a little trick which should help with the back cleavage, you may already know this... get someone to pop their index fingers down the back of the dress, in the centre and push their fingers outwards to smooth the surface Smiley smile

If the shop has taken it in too much and is now a little tight, could they not take it out again? I'd be so angry at the shop if they didn't do my fittings correctly. What did the shop say when it clearly wasn't right? Did you complain? What alterations are they doing between now and your next fitting on Saturday?

Four weeks is plenty of time to sort something out. Please don't panic x

Yes they could take it out, but they reckon all they will happen is that itll be too big around the bust again as it is a trade off.

I am cross with the dress shop, if they had said to me I would have this problem I wouldn't have chosen this dress!

I honestly don't know what to do, I am thinking of shopping around for another dress that could be more easily altered but I would need to find it this week and I am working all week then hen do Saturday so lord knows how I'm going to get it sorted.

Stressed is NOT the word for how I'm feeling right now!

That can't be right, they must be a very poor seamstress, could you take it elsewhere, or what about a lace up back.

If they've told you I really think they're just wrong. The seamstress should be able to take in your bust without effecting your back. I had this exact same alteration recently done. If the seamstress has taken in your bust by taking in the back, then I think she's not done the alteration properly, or perhaps did it through a 'short cut method.' I'm not a seamstress so can't say for sure, but I do recall how my seamstress explained she'd be taking in my bust, and it had nothing to do with the material on the back. I'm sure others on here with more experience in tailoring can comment further.

I'd go back to the shop and demand that you get a second opinion from another seamstress. You should be able to sort this out in the next 4 weeks.

Well it would seem the person I have been dealing with isn't even the blooming seamstress!!

Yes have been thinking a bit about a lace up back too.

I called the shop today to discuss options and they got quite shirty with me when I was asking if they have any suggestions for what can be done etc. They are not really offering any help at all but have said they will take it out for me, so am have made an appointment to go back on Thursday and have a look.

TBH I have a good mind to take the dress away and get a different seamstress to have a look at it for me.

    OR

go for plan B - Went to adifferent dress shop today and found a beautiful sample dress which fits/ is comfortable and has a lace up back so in theory I wont have the above issue, the only alterations needed is the hem taking up slightly.

    Decisions decisions!
