Help! I have got to do an interview?

Mrs Vineweevil, 18 November, 2009 at 15:17 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 1

I haven't interviewed anyone for years and I am not sure what to ask. My boss is sitting in, but is so uninterested I am sure he will leave it to me, but be watching if I make an idiot of myself...!

The job is only for 2 days a week, doing maily purchase ledger and some other bits 'n' bobs. The role is also only a temporary position, so I am not interested in their sticking power or career aspirations or anything like that, mainly just want to see if they fit in and can do the job, but don't know what to ask. can anyone help?

I usually ask stuff like: what they enjoy most/dislike most about their current job, what do they think they would like about the job you're offering etc. If it's purchase ledger, maybe you could give them an example of a typical transaction and see how they would post it or something like that?

I had an interview a couple of weeks back sort of like this, she called it an informal get to know you session. She asked about my likes, define yourself in 3 words, how would your friends describe you, what you want out of life in general, the aim was just to see if I'd fit in in their small office.

I got this list of an agent when I went for a job with them, whilst most of them probably aren't totally applicable it might give you some ideas:-

    PRACTICE INTERVIEW QUESTIONS

1: Tell me about a time when you failed personally.

2: How do you handle failures or weaknesses in others?

3: How would you describe your attitude toward risk?

4: Do you consider yourself a risk taker?

5: How do you normally handle crises?

6: Tell me about at time when you were under a great deal of pressure.

7: What kinds of decisions are most difficult for you?

8: Why does this job interest you?

9: How is this job different from the other positions you have interviewed for?

10: What kind of contribution do you think you could make to our organization?

11: What part of this job interests you the most?

12: What part of this job interests you the least?

13: What makes you different from other candidates?

14: Where else are you interviewing?

15: When are you available to start?

16: Is there anything that I have forgotten to ask you?

17: If you could do anything in your career differently what would it be?

18: How do you handle authority?

19: What would your colleagues say about you?

20: How much money are you looking for?

21: Tell me about a time when you handled a difficult situation with a co-worker.
