Help! I need a non religious venue that will just do the ceremony

PaintedHales, 28 November, 2012 at 08:49 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hi All.

So I am new to this, recently engaged and as my lucky number is 13, I am really hoping to get married next year.

I really want the reception to be in the grounds of my parents house, its a beautiful barn at the foot of the Malvern Hills. However, I am struggling to find an appropriate venue that will just perform the ceremony and wont need to be booked all day.

I dont want to get married in church and I have never seen a registry office that I like. Does anybody know anywhere that performs non religious ceremonies and wont expect us to have the reception there also? If anyone has any suggestions for Worcester or Malvern etc, I would be so grateful. (sorry if this is a really daft question, like I said , I am new to this so you can all expect many stupid and obvious questions from me over the next few months!)

Many thanks

Hales x

Hi there, are you looking to get married on a Friday or Saturday? If you are ok with a week day you may find it easier to find a venue that will let you have it for just the ceremony if they usually struggle to get bookings on week days. I have seen places that offer a ceremony and drinks reception option which would allow you to have the wedding meal and party at your parents place (not in your location unfortunately but I'm sure there must be others that offer this).

A lot of places will just allow you to use somewhere for the ceremony, although there is probably a massive premium to this.

I don't know of any in your area sadly but it might be worth calling up venues and asking them, the worst they can say is no.

Alternatively you could have a simple ceremony (just the two of you and witnesses), and then have a humanist ceremony at home perhaps?

Have you tried National Trust places?

These are normally pretty reasonable for ceremony only and are generally gorgeous.

Have you thought about just going to a registry office just you Oh and a couple of witnesses to do the legal bit no fuss on a diffeent day and then having the ceremony you want at your relatives place ask a friend/relative or an actor to play the role of reigistra.

What Kharv said! We got married in a National Trust place in Cambs, and it was beautiful. We had it for the wedding breakfast too but we didn't need to. I liked the fact the money was more of a donation too, rather than profit for a hotel chain or something. Have a look at Hanbury Hall, which is in Droitwich, it's lovely!

ETA the other ones nearby are the Fleece Inn, and Greyfriars, which is in the centre I think - I haven't visited either of these but they look lovely too.

For just the ceremony, a quick google threw out

    Barley Hall - http://www.barleyhall.org.uk/content.asp?ID=130

Cottage in the Wood - https://www.cottageinthewood.co.uk/gallery.htm

    Jenners Barn - http://www.jennersbarn.com/

    Hope you find somewhere!

Thanks for all your suggestions! You lot really know your stuff!

In a style true to me however, I have completely changed my mind and have sent an application off to my Mom and Dads local church. I was hoping to please everyone as some of my family are anti religious but Mom and OH stepped in and said I need to do what makes me happy and the guests will just have to suck up a bit of religion for the day! Anyway, I went to see it over the weekend and got goosebumps. Its a little village church and 5 mins up the road from my Mom and Dads barn ( where I will be setting up a marquee for the reception). I am just waiting for the Rev to get back to me to confirm the date. In a moment of madness, I have requested my dream date of 13th July NEXT YEAR! so I have shitloads to do now in about 7 months! oops.
