Help! Ideas for a late honeymoon destination??

natalieexx, 13 November, 2012 at 12:35 Posted on Planning 0 15

Unfortunately we didn't get to have a honeymoon as we moved into our first house together the week after the wedding instead!

So now I'm thinking about sorting out a late honeymoon for early next summer... anytime from May-July really, avoiding school holidays to keep the price down!

Anybody got any ideas on where we can go? We want luxury, at least 4*, preferrably at an all inclusive beach resort, somewhere hot. I'd quite like it to have a spa and watersports/excursions so we can really treat ourselves. If it's near a busy town with good nightlife and restaurants I guess all-inclusive isn't that important, all depends on your recommendations!

Trouble is, we don't have much money! I guess we'd want to spend around £500 pp max really.

Any suggestions?

We have been to Egypt before so although I won't rule it out, we would prefer somewhere new. The hotel we stayed at in Egypt was a "5*" but we didn't think it was at all so we're also a bit wary about which hotel we stay at, so any specific hotel recommendations for anywhere would be good. We don't want to pay for all inclusive and the food be crap!

Also looked at Cyprus but think we're going there with my family late next summer so would prefer somewhere different really.

I've had a look online and you can get some cheap holidays I'm just really out of ideas of where to go!

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks girls ? xx

I'm afraid I can't help at all, really stuck myself for ideas but thinking along the lines of Greek islands perhaps...

Hmmmm... think its quite tough to do for £500 p/p really....

I did a quick look on Thomas Cook and in June you could go to Mexcio 5 star (their luxury type of holiday) all inclusive for £872 pp, which I know is over your budget, sorry.

Tunisia is good, but its quite like Egypt (or so I am told)

Ummm.... Morroco... (just reminds me of Sex and the City!!)

I think the southern area of Turkey is meant to be nice and a little less "commercial"

Might be worth waiting until after Christmas as a lot of operators do sales then to boost sales. I got my holiday in the sale in January and saved about £300 I think.

    Sorry not much help

Yeah had a look at Greek islands, they do have some good deals but I don't know where's nice and where isn't!

I found some in Tunisia, 4* for like £230 pp all inclusive which worried me... that's just too cheap right?

I've always wanted to go Mexico but we'd never be able to save that in the next few months! I did have a look and found the same deal!

I just get so annoyed at Trip Advisor cos every hotel I find, on there has bad reviews! It's so frustrating that a hotel can have 100 5* reviews and 100 1* reviews... I just don't know which reviews to trust! x

Re: Tunisia, its not "too cheap", I went there in July and paid about £460 pp all inclusive for a 4* hotel. It was a lovely hotel, but not what I would class as 4* in the UK. Having said that, it was worth every penny, and by far the cheapest holiday I could find (we didnt want to spend over £1000).

I kept checking Trip advisor before I booked the hotel, as what the company says, and what people actually say, can be very different. Might be worth doing it that way? A lot of people told me that other hotels put 1* reviews on competetors hotels. Its worth just reading through them, and checking that the reason they gave it 3 stars was because of something which you would class as not important etc. Use the overall rating as a guide.

The prices for tunisia have plummeted because of the fighting last year. We stopped flying to Monastir and now we've been flying to Enfidha all year. It takes a long time for a destination to recover from bad press and the tourism really suffers. I know a couple of people who have been who loved it, it's definitely got the sun factor!! Unfortunately I have never stayed in Tunisia as the flight is so short (under 3 hours) but it's always gloriously sunny!! I have flown to a place called Djerba once which looked really spectacular it's an island off tunisia... have a look there. As for the hotels, look to see if there are reviews on both the tour operators website and trip advisor.... generally i say if the majority vote it great then the others might have been unlucky or just being fussy. Obvs as it's your honeymoon you will probably (you'd hope!) get good treatment from the hotel.

Greece is just gorgeous, unfortunately the cheaper islands have been taken over by teenagers and the flights can be rowdy. But in may it is still very early season for the clubby parts so wont be as bad as june/july/aug.

Having said that if you stay away from the 18-30 towns, other parts of the islands are beautiful and you'll soon forget the party people. Have you looked into having a villa just the two of you instead? My mum and dad went away in september last minute to kefalonia (which is far more dear than other islands) and got flights and villa with pool for £600! think they booked about a month before. That's always your other option... if you want something nice for cheap try and book last minute to nab a deal.

I loved turkey too for the weather.

    good luck!! xxxx

Thanks for all the advice nikki ? I have heard of Djerba and heard it's supposed to be nice! To be honest as long as it's nice and doesn't have a basic cheap feel to it we will be happy wherever!

Thought about a villa, but I have only ever stayed in a hotel once - all family holidays have always been staying in a villa so to me staying in a hotel feels a bit more special. But I wouldn't rule that out either! I think when we go to Cyprus next summer we're staying in a big villa so it would be nice to have the hotel type of honeymoon.

I keep falling in love with the Thomson Premier hotels but they are so expensive ☹️ xx

Oooh don't discount croatia too... a really beautiful place and should be warming up in may, just not the egypt/tunisia temperatures. Xx

Aarrgghhhh Just wrote a reply and hitched deleted it! Hate it when that happens! I'll have a look at First choice too thanks... I've tried all the cheapo sites (ice lolly, teletext holidays) but I just think the standard of hotels is a lot less and not good enough for our honeymoon! xx

I had a thought this morning when I was looking at my emails. Have you joined Groupon or KGB deals? They send me holiday deals that can be booked anything from next week, to 3-4 months in advance (one was even until April next year). They are discounted and they tell you the name of the hotel etc. so you can have a look to see what its like.

    Might be worth a go?

Thanks but yeah I have both of those, and Wowcher too! They send me deals every day and they are really good, but the problem is we don't have the money up front! With Thompson etc you only pay £100pp deposit then we could save the rest until 6 weeks before when the balance is due! xx
