HELP in desperate need of a venue!! Vintage theme greater manchester / Lancashire / West Yorkshire area

HollyfuturemrsD, 28 February, 2014 at 03:03 Posted on Planning 0 10

I am in desperate need of a wedding venue for the reception and I can't find "the one"

My favourite for a while was the Saddleworth Hotel but I have heard awful things about the owner from reviews and friends and family.

We are looking for somewhere in the Greater Manchester / West Yorkshire / Lancashire areas

as I am having a vintage theme I can go one of 2 ways.

1. Rustic barn house style. Oak beams, pretty rural countryside etc

or

2. Country house hotel. Chandeliers, grand halls, manicured grounds etc

I've seen a few lovely venues but nothing that feels right yet. We have a 100 sit down for the wedding breakfast and max. 200 for the evening.

Ideally I need somewhere with accommodation and on site catering.

If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it. I feel like I'm going crazy trying to find a venue.

thankyou xx

We are getting married at Wentbridge House hotel which is near Pontefract. When we were shown around by the staff nothing was too much trouble, they have been excellent with replying to emails and from this I feel that their service will be excellent on the day. It's a large country house hotel with gorgeous gardens and you can even get married outside if you want to. We are having a small wedding but they do larger groups as they have different rooms, one of the best things is that there is only 1 wedding per day too x

    Thanks Peebs88

Wentbridge house is gorgeous. The gardens are stunning. You are so lucky. And it is the sort of place I'm looking for but it's almost an hour away from our ceremony. I'm hoping to find somewhere 30-40 mins away.

Ahhh where is the ceremony? Another suggestion could be Walton Hall in Wakefield, my friend got married there and it was absolutely gorgeous. Good luck with the search! Let us know how you get on xx

I posted about this last year and there a few ideas on there.

Places we saw that were lovely but not cheap were Styal Lodge and Sandhole Oak Barn.

Loved Peover golf club inside but too small for us.

We went with Meols Tithe Barn in Southport. Not cheap and we had to travel but so worth it and it was absolutely gorgeous.

We was dead set on the saddle worth too when we viewed it, despite how odd the owner is we was sure it was the place for us. However after leaving and looking at a few reviews we decided we couldn't risk him ruining the day. We actually mentioned the place to our photographer after booking and he said the last time he had shot a wedding there the owner made one of the ushers (a grown man) cry by barking orders at him all day telling him to get a move on and get people seated/in certain places Etc, he also screamed at a child for dropping a plate.

Thank you for all your replies, I'm so grateful.

Meols hall is stunning, do you mind me asking what prices are like, can't seem to find anything on their website. We will be having 100 for the wedding breakfast and the max.180 for evening

Still no luck finding a venue.

I've seen a couple that look promising and wondering if anyone has any thoughts?

We're getting married at Ashfield House in Standish, near Wigan. its a small country house hotel but its just been renovated and looks beautiful, got the chandeliers and grounds. The staff have been wonderful so far, might be worth a look?

    Hi!!

Unfortunately i cant advise on the venue as although im only in Cheshire, i didnt look at any greater manchester venues.

I would say however that we booked our church and chose a venue. We then changed our mind on the venue and chose a new one which was 45mins-1 hour away from church. So as much as we love the church and our daughter was christened there etc we decided that it was just too far to travel but didnt want to give up our lovely venue. So we are now getting married at the venue outside.

Have you maybe considered altering your plans for the ceremony so that you can then consider different venues which you are currently ruling out due to the distance? x

I'm getting married at Eaves Hall https://www.jamesplaces.com/eaves-hall/ It is the sister hotel to Mitton Hall. Not sure if it would be big enough for you though but it is self contained so you take over the whole place and is sooooo beautiful.

I also loved the inn at whitewell but again probably too small for you.
