HELP!! Looking for a good funky wedding band in Surrey

futuremrsknott, 16 October, 2011 at 13:24 Posted on Planning 0 17

This is my very first post and I need the help of you all brides to be...

I have not long been engaged (well a month and 12 days to be precise) but like most of you out there I have grown an obsession for wedding organising and have been looking at absolutely everything with every moment i have spare... i've been quite organised so far and have my church, venue, car and dress already ticked off my list.

There a couple of things I am really really struggling with and that is the photographer and the entertainment... I really really really want a band but all the ones I like are charging well over a £1000, something that really isn't in my budget. The other thing is the photographer, i've seen a couple of really good photographers but they want in excess of £2000!!!

Are there any ladies out there who can maybe point me in the right direction with a both a band and photographer. My wedding is in Surrey so someone local would be great.

Thank you!!!

    Welcome Smiley smile

Can't help with a band sorry but don't discount photographers that aren't local to your chosen venue or area as many are happy to travel and don't necessarily charge you for the privilege.

My wife originates from Surrey (Redhill) and her sister used http://www.billbrynephotography.com/ last year - he's based in Horley. I don't know what his package was but it was less than £2000. Many photographers do a range of products for various budgets so it's worth looking into.

Your best bet is both of you look out for wedding fairs in your area and go along to some - you'll meet photographers and often bands too which you can chat over with and pick the best one to suit your needs.

Thanks very much for the info. I'll take a look on the photographers' website.

I think its always best to go for photographers / entertainment based on recommendations. Its always feel like such a big risk otherwise, especially when it is one of the best days of your life.

    Thanks again!

    Welcome to hitched!

I got married in West Sussex, but only just across the border from Surrey. Our photographer was Bev Downie and from tge few photos on the blog we've seen so far she did a really good job. She's based in Sussex.

Our band were Life and Soul (mostly Surrey based i think). They were fantastic but may be a little pricier than you wanted.

If there's any other recommendations you want for the area, just ask x

Cant help but wanted to say hi Smiley smile

    when are you getting married?

We're getting photography as a generous wedding gift Smiley laugh but looking at the price everyone is paying im glad of that! our photographer will also attend as a guest (fasmily friend) so we will also have really late sloshed guests pics lol it also means if the weather is bad we can take some the next day if its nicer because they are staying with us for a few days after the weddinf

Thank you Lucy, I'll take her a look at Bev's website. I've been sitting on the sofa all day with the laptop looking at website's after website's... I think my problem is i'm a little picky. I really like reportage photos but its seems to be those photographers that cost the most Smiley sad Think I might just have to do some overtime at work so I can afford what i would really like.

Thanks for recommending Life and Soul, just took a sneak peak on their website and I like them, a lot!!! This is exactly the type of music I'm after.

Thanks very much for your help x

    Hi Northumberland Bride,

We are getting married 22nd September next year, I am SO SO SO SO excited!!! When are your nuptials taking place?

I wish I knew a photographer! I honestly couldn't believe how expensive they can be. Kind of put a spanner in the works as far as my budget is concerned. Think i'm gonna go a tad over to be honest. Oops!

    Hello!!

Can totally sympathise, I got engaged 2 months ago and finding a photographer & band that are good for a decent price is very hard!!

I can reccommend 'One foot in the Groove'. They played at my sisters wedding and i have just booked them for mine.

    Hope you get something sorted...

What venue did you go for?

    Hi ya Louise,

Just checked out One Foot in the Groove and they are really really good. I'm liking them a lot too! If you don't mind me asking would you be able to tell me roughly how much they are as they don't give any price details on their website.

Our venue is Denbies Wine Estate in Dorking. i have always wanted to have my reception there and we were so lucky enough that they were available. I think the wine was part of that decision Smiley smile

Where is your venue? How are the rest of your wedding plans going?

    Hiya Sarah

We paid £1500 for the band but we had the 7 peice band however it depends on how many instruments you would like etc so they may be able to give you a quote. They really are Fab!!

We are getting married at Hartsfield Manor, we looked at a church in Dorking, its not far from there.

We are so stuck with a photographer!!!

I looked at Hartsfield Manor but they didn't have the availability for when I wanted to get to married. It is a very lovely venue!!!

    When is your wedding?

I have found some really amazing photographers but it really does depend how much you want to spend. I had a really long chat with one photographer yesterday and she mentioned that the more they charge, the longer they tend to spend on editing and re-touching your pictures. The lady I spoke to charges £1800 for 8 hours of photography but she can spend 5 or 6 days going through each photo and editing them. You can then kind of understand why they do charge so much.

Oh wow, July 2013 - I bet you are wishing that time away Smiley smile

I'm getting married next September. I have become so addicted to weddings, I find myself looking at anything wedding related every day. I'm driving my future husband (I love saying that) absolutely nuts. Even now, he's telling me to get off the laptop - I can't help myself! lol

You should take a look at this photographer, a friend of a friend had her for her wedding and she commented how lovely she was and how relaxed she made everyone feel. Her photos are really lovely as well... Her name is Sarah Legge, you should google her.

We've decided not to have a videographer but instead we have a family friend taking some footage for us of all the key moments. I mainly want the photos to do all the talking. Are you having one? x

Hehe Im exaclty the same!! My house has been taken over by wedding magazines & all things wedding related! :-)

Yes we have decided to have a videographer, want to combine both our mum n dads wedding videos into our DVD, something nice to keep. If you are not having a videographer then it might be worth spending that little extra on photography to make sure it is the very best!

Will defo check out that photographer, thank you x

    It's so addictive isn't it...

Ah that sounds like such a lovely idea, that's so sweet and I bet your parents will absolutely love that.

If I find any other photographers I'll forward you on the details. I'm on a mission Smiley smile x

    Hey!

I'm in the exact same position, got venue, dress and car (kinda). Very jelous of Denbies!! (i'm at kingswood in tadworth)

I'm still looking at photographers. the one i really want is £1500, and two others are round the £700 mark (for hours and an editied disc)

I would reccommend Edwin Gregory (he's booked on our date but is giving me advice and had been a superstar), Steve Brookes (top end but has gorgeous stuff), Haley Bray is also incredible (but way out of my budget) and my head of year's best mate Lee Curtis (comes as a two man with my head of year for £600). The one i'm going for is Amanda Duncan, shes been so helpful and flexible it's incerdible, she also knows the venue and could show me photos of other weddings at my venue in the same month mine will be.

For everyone i've emailed i've explained exactly what i want, why i like them and my budget. you quickly find out who is willing to win you over and come down in price and who is in it for the cash.

As for the band i'm floundering, have contacted loads and the one my htb likes doesn't let you see them live - bit sus! I'm a winter wedding so need a local band who will travel in snow, should the worst happen!

anyway, hope i've been some help!
