Help me choose a veil *With FLASH*

chloe_chloe, 19 March, 2012 at 11:45 Posted on Planning 0 4

Hi ladies!

I am trying to decide which veil to buy to go with my dress and would welcome any suggestions!

I'm thinking of going for single layer chapel length with a pencil trim and some crystal detail (to mirror the neckline). Not sure whether to have the crystals just scattered around the edges or, alternatively, I thought "falling stars" might look nice (basically where the crystals are scattered all over, but with more of them at the bottom of the train?)

I'm getting married outside and have a really long "aisle" walk (about 50m!) so thought having a long train would look nice in the photos.

Decisions decisions!

(Incidentally the dress does not show as much leg in real life - the model is doing a bit of an Angelina. The split just shows off your shoes when you walk).

Thanks in advance for any help!

You aren't planning on wearing it over your face? Just to dangle down the back? Just checking you know a single tier can't be worn traditionally.

I really like plain veils, they let the dress do the talking. And with your dress I'd go for a plain one, to let the neckline of your dress stay as the statement of your outfit.

No, I'm not planning on wearing it over my face - as we're having a civil ceremony outside I thought it would be too formal.

Hmm, now you've got me thinking whether a plain one would look better! ?

Don't get me wrong the sparkly ones are nice too, I just think there is something very elegant and classy about choosing one bit of sparkle and keeping everything else simple. But then it depends what else you're wanting to wear too. Are you having a hair piece/tiara? Earrings? Bracelet?

You have to try and imagine everything together. Because each piece of your outfit can look great alone, but when it's all together it can look a bit much. I recently sold my tiara because of this. I loved it by itself, but along with my hairdo, dress, veil, sparkly shoes and jewellery I looked like a child who had gone round the birdal shop and put one of everything on!

Perhaps if you aren't having anything in your hair you could have a bit of sparkle on the veil to compensate? But it's up to you, everyone had a different level of bling they can handle until they look like someone from Gypsy weddings! I think my bling factor is naturally quite low!

No worries at all - I think you've made a very good point to be honest. And I did come on here asking for opinions in the hope that my outfit will look as perfect as possible!

I will wear earrings but think they need to be very simple because of the neckline - I might just treat myself to some diamond studs that I can wear again afterwards. ?

I want to wear my hair half up/ half down. I was wondering about getting some kind of hair piece to wear when I take my veil off - maybe one that will just be visible from the back. Then again another hitcher has just flashed a gorgeous tiara on here which has made me desperate for something similar! I know what you mean about being like a little kid in a bridal shop wanting to wear one of everything! there are just too many pretty things around!

I'd suggest a cathedral length veil, it will better match the train on your dress! Then I would suggest the falling stars look.
