Help me make a decision re BM dresses *FLASH*

venart, 19 February, 2012 at 18:27 Posted on Planning 0 19

I really wanted my bridesmaids to choose their own dresses, but they've ganged up and made me do it in the end Smiley sad I found a few dresses I liked, and sent them an email asking them to pick one or two, and I'm still having to make a decision, and even though I know my taste, and that of my maids, won't necessarily be the same as everyone on here, I'd love to hear why you do or don't like certain dresses, it might be that there's something I haven't though of?

The first set of dresses are Maids to Measure, and they could choose to wear any of them as they could all be the same fabric and colour- on the plus side they can be customized to a certain extent for free, made exactly to their measurements, and they can make them long, short, straps, no straps, blah blah blah:

These next ones are by a designer we can get when I'm back in Canada this June:

So far I've only found these that appeal. For fabrics we all prefer less structured, so chiffon, organza, cotton, etc. At least 2 of the 3 girls wants straps on the dress, so that's needed (and the Jenny Yoo dresses could come with or without straps, which is a plus). I've just been going through hitched for more options, though, and came across this:

And I might also like this:

Feedback? Other dresses you think I and my bridesmaids will like? I really wish I didn't have to help them decide- I'm not that kind of bride and I hate having to make all these decisions!!!

They are all beautiful dress however my personal fav is the style of the peach dress. Very flattering and elegant. I am having a nightmare over my bridesmaid dresses aswell. My 2 sisters are very happy to wear whatever I choose however I want them to be happy too. I have bought dresses for them and thought we were sorted however the colour looks very different in different lights - which im no longer happy with. I tried on a stunning bridesmaid dress yday - it was beautiful but the down side is its extremely expensive - I dont mind paying out for it but at the price it is I would hope the girls would wear again to make it worthwhile however the colour i fancy they may not wear again!! Decisions decisions!

I hope you decide on a style soon - What colour are you going for?

The colour is totally another problem area! I'm also of the mind that if we're spending $300 canadian, or £195 on a dress, I want them to like it enough to wear again! So for the colour I've told them I want them to choose, but they refuse! It's so frustrating, I'm the worst decision maker in the world!

I'm considering a light grey or ivory for their dresses, even though my colour scheme is burgundy, sage green, and dusk rose pink. That way it's an unobtrusive colour and they could wear it again. But then I think about the fabric and I wonder if they'd really every want to wear chiffon again, which leads me to want to choose Jenny Yoo's Trudy dress as it's silk shantung.

Do you think a sage green dress is wearable in another context? I wouldn't want burgundy as it's a summer wedding, and I've already got a burgundy sash on my dress. And I don't think the pink would be wearable... If sage green isn't too bad, I might see about that, otherwise it's ivory or grey.. or maybe a raw umber like in the trudy picture- is that re-wearable?

Out of the first three the lilac on would probably suit the majority as the other two look very low cut and may make some people uncomfortable Smiley smile love the second from last dress assuming its a summer wedding.

All lovely dresses. I especially like the third shorter dress. Is that Jenny yoo? If so, do you mind me asking what sort of price these are as it's the sort of thing I'm after and made to measure would be perfect for one of my big boobed bms. Do you want them to all have the same style or could they just pick their fav from the first 3 in the same colours? I can't seem to see the middle ones you've posted.

I love the peach coloured one Smiley smile the others seem quite low cut, have you thought of a bright colour? A bright or royal blue could look nice.

I'm not sure why you can't see the middle ones.. Sometimes I have to refresh the page on hitched to see pictures. The Jenny Yoo dresses are the ones that say Trudy and Blake on the pictures, and the price is about $300 US, which is about £190. Expensive, but I'm only buying one of the dresses. I'm assuming those are the two dresses you can't see?

Is this the dress you're referring to? If so, it's B2, and I found it browsing on hitched here.

If I pick Maids to Measure (the first three) then they can have any style they want. I think I can trust them enough to pick when it's narrowed down to that amount.

I like the first 2 best, but that is only because I personally prefer longer dresses on bridesmaids.

I love the lilac one. Have you had a look at the girls of elegance website? They've got some lovely chiffon dresses at good prices.

Hmm, just had a look and I'm not really a fan of any of the dresses on that website. I'm the worst person to be looking at these dresses as I'm so picky when it comes to clothing, and I keep seeing things I don't like about dresses.

The lilac dress is very pretty, but when I showed my bridesmaids all these dresses they seemed to prefer the ones that were shorter, so I think I've shut out those longer ones, even though I think they would have been perfect.

My MoH hasn't responded to my emails this weekend, and while I know she has her own life to lead I wish she'd at least give one of the dresses a thumbs up or down.

The second pale pink dress I like the most as the top part is flattering whether you are small or big busted. The first pale pink dress is good if you are fuller figured as it's a maxi style and is very flattering. A mixture of the two would be perfect.

I just realized the two Jenny Yoo dresses aren't showing up! Wonder why it works on my laptop but not from work (or maybe for anyone else):

    Jenny Yoo Trudy:

Jenny Yoo Blake, same length as above, but in chiffon instead of silk shandun and with slightly different bodice:

Is it that they won't pick dresses by themselves because they're worried about not agreeing? If you said to them 'here's a choice of dresses, you can have any of them, you don't all need to have the same' would they then choose one for themselves?

Purple Pixie, I did just that, and my sister came back and told me she didn't think they should all be wearing different dresses, that I would have to pick one. Then another BM said, very sweetly, 'aww, Emms, I'll wear whatever you want me to!' which wasn't helpful at all ><

I think I'll just end up picking one of the Jenny Yoo's because they can try them on in Toronto and it will be easier than getting dresses here in the UK, as much as I love the Maids to Measure idea.

I'm just out of steam when it comes to making decisions about the wedding, and I'm afriad I'm going to make the wrong decision because of that.

Haha, yes, it's very expensive. The chiffon Jenny Yoo one is the only one actually picked out as an option by one of the bridesmaids. I'd only linked the first one to them, but then my sister came back with a 'I like the Blake style, too.'

So I might just unilaterally choose Blake for them, and I think it looks good in that peachy light pink/nude colour, so done and done. No more decisions! And if they don't like it, they can blame my sister ?
