Help - Music for our Disco

Stupidgirl45, 2 July, 2009 at 21:38 Posted on Planning 0 12

So, I've got a list of songs that I WANT the DJ to play, but I also need to give him a list of songs I don't want him to play.

So far I have banned the following but can't think of anymore, can you please post your most HATED cheesy disco song to help remind me of other songs I DO NOT WANT PLAYED.

Agadoo Oops Upside your head the birdy song the macarena hey baby Saturday night come on eileen auld lang syne anything by westlife, boyzone, spice girls,

The Conga

Agree with everything mentioned! I also cringe at things like 'Oh what a night' and 'I'm in the mood for dancing' - that sort of thing. Could just be me!

    Rock DJ

Thank you for the music (plenty of other good abba songs IMO)

This is a DJ speaking ....and not my personal opinion....cus framky I cringe when asked to play some of those tracks.

Some of those mentioned are real dance floor fillers......especially if you have a mixed age range such as grease megamix and cha cha slide.

one way of looking at it is ...is the disco for you, or is it entertainment for your guests.

A way round it would be to tell your DJ you want the minimum of cheese (or give him that list) and instructions to only play those tracks if they are specifically requested by one of your guests.

I personally don't play cheese unless requested as part of the remit by the bride or by a guest.

Here's a bit of info that might be helpful when choosing your 'to play' list.

I had a night when the bride only wanted R&B all night. I personally loved the choice of music.....but the only people on the dance floor all night was the bride and groom and a couple of their friends. Now that might sound as if i'm saying that if you are prescriptive you'll have an empty dance floor. I'm not because on another occasion a bride wanted mostly club dance classics like bits and pieces. When i saw the list i thought 'oh no this is going to bomb'......but it didn't....the floor was heaving all night.

What i'm saying is some people really do know what their guests will get on the dance floor. You've also got to bare in mind the DJ's skill and experience in determining the right music to play and appealing to all your guests.

Another helpful snippet is.......what you like listening to at home won't always work on the dance floor. For those tracks, i often suggest playing them during the buffet or as guests are arriving.

    Hope those snippets are helpful.

Lol ive been to some weddings when the dj was stuck in the early 80's but to be honest once you have all relaxed and had a drink everyone gets up and throws some shapes on the dance floor although i have to agree Who lets the dogs out must go!!

    totally agree.

I've only ever been asked for it once and that was a fancy dress party and it was requested for the guy dressed as a dalmation. Needless to say he ended up in the middle of a large circle and it went down a storm. Hey ho....there's an exception to every rule
