HELP!!!! My venue is ORANGE!

Candysgirl1982, 29 January, 2014 at 15:38 Posted on Planning 0 34

Hi everyone! I need some MAJOR help. My reception venue is ORANGE. It has peachy coloured walls and an orange/rust red coloured carpet. It's REALLY not the colours I wanted for the wedding, but its so overpowering, I can't ignore it. What can I do?! I wanted the wedding to be mint/blush/rose gold etc.

    Tricky.

Barring changing venue you might consider one of those venue dressing companies - I've seen them do wonders.

Pretty sure there are some listed on Hitched.

I've just googles Orange & Blush wedding themes & lots of really nice images came up. There's lots you can do, you could tone it down or go bold & beautiful with it. One of the images that came up was the below.....beautiful! Get looking on Pinterest & Google, you'll get lots of ideas.

No other ideas than been mentioned other than mood (LED) lighting, I've seen some rooms transformed beautifully with that, can watch youtube vids of it and I was quoted about £175 for hire.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but why did you choose it as a venue if it doesn't fit with your colour scheme or vision?

Fair point. The REST if the venue DOES fit. It's just the room we're having the wedding breakfast in. I live in the Scottish Highlands, and the options are limited, this venue is otherwise great. Ceremony by the river, and evening in a wooden chalt style bar. It's just the room for the lunch/sit down bit.

Am I the only one that finds it odd that wedding venues go for garish colors/carpets???

surely it should go safe, if it was my business I would stick with more neutral colors like whites, creams, silvers and dark woods

    Hi there!,

Once your tables are all set the carpet not be so noticeable, I have noticed a lot of the venues I like have very interesting carpet choices!! As for the walls if they are really not to your taste and you have room in your budget there are companies that can put up white draping. Hope that helps Smiley smile x

Exactly. Something NEUTRAL!!! Maybe not white of cream though. Would get dirty, but a light mocha? That I could work with. Not RUSTY RED!!! Lol! Think it just hasn't been updated in a while.

Someone google "Hilton coylumbridge, cairngorm suite" and stick a pic up would you please? I can't seem to do it, and I want to know if others think its as garish as me....

Just googled it - It is quite bright, but I think its the chairs that finish it off tho as theyre so red/orange, so are you having chair covers? If all the chairs were white covered i reckon itd tone that orange right down! The walls are fairly delicate peachy shade so blush/golds would still go. N i bet you wouldnt really notice the carpet when everything and everyone is in there! Love the stone wall at one end of the room, lovely feature!

Don't try to fight it/hide it, you may draw attention to it. Go with it, incorporate it .. Or, lots and lots of white - tone it down.

We have a similar problem, our theme is red and black gothic and our evening venue has bright yellow walls. We looked at hiring drapes to cover the walls, but have gone instead for LED uplighters. They are £100 to hire 8 of them and they will make the walls a dark red instead.

Thanks guys. There are white chair covers, (I have a pic I can show you! Lol) but the carpet (and the checked curtains) are still really shouting at me....maybe I'm just being over-sensitive, I'm just very visually orientated.

Are there any pictures of the room when it's been used for weddings before? Our venue has red walls which you would think would completely clash with a purple colour scheme but have seen photos of it where people have had this colour and it just looks lovely!

Yes, but I don't know how to post them on here! What's a photo URL?! (I'm an iPhone person)

The photo URL is when you go on the image on it's own as opposed to on the website and it's the web address from there. No idea about how this would work on an iPhone; I have an android and it won't even let me type on here; have to use my laptop!

I think it'll be ok if you have a lot of white or cream colours as everyone else said, it's not as bad as I imagined at all Smiley smile Should be fine i'm sure and no one will think anything of it I bet!

I think my problem is that I am EXTREMELY visually driven. I notice every colour clash, every wrinkle in the linens, everything. (And I'm a bride, so I'm highly strung and panicking about everything. Anyone else? Lol!)

also, we're only a small wedding party (50) so they might only use one section of the room, which means having a curtain across. Which looks like this:

maybe I should have just gone somewhere else, but we like everything else about the place.

I'm guessing it's because stains are easier to disguise but I never understand it. All but two of the venues we viewed had swirly carpets and dated colour schemes- why would you do it as a venue owner? Perhaps other people arnt as bothered as us?!

I'm with the whole 'why do venue owners go garish?'

seriously though go for a black carpet if you have to but art decor - swirls and flowers are a big no no for me!

op sorry not much help there lol! If say go with white chair covers and bold burnt orange sashes to team with a blush and rose gold theme x

Oo n dont forget all your guests will be looking forward at the two of you, not behind them or to the sides at the curtains!

N atm while your thinking about it you might hate the orange, but it will tone down a bit with your decorations in there, n if you love everywhere else in the building orange can just be your little compromise, hey maybe you'll grow to love it! ?

My designer-y advise would to NEUTRALIZE! (hate to say this) chair covers, I'm not a huge fan of them but they DO have a good effect on changing a room, that or better yet hire new chairs!! uplighters, baytrees or other decor features at eye level. other that, work with it, orange, coral, pinks etc

No idea why venues do this - makes it so dated often and then costs a fortune to cover. One of the venues we looked at had red carpets (not so bad) but then they had a giant garish green tapestry covering one wall which woul have been behind the top table and looked vile!

I think it'll be fine, I'd probably ditch the mint and go for a combination of orange tones (burnt orange/blush/rose/gold) that you can have running through. Concentrate on one of the other tones (gold or blush) otherwise it will be too much orange but just make sure they're colours the complement the orange.

I quite like the 'sludge' green though.

Have you considered getting a floor sheet - I looked into this when I was looking at a different venue x
