HELP!!!!! Need a Venue!!

An9el, 8 September, 2009 at 10:34 Posted on Planning 0 14

Hello Everyone

Me and my fiance are trying to plan pur wedding for June 2010 but we dont know where to start!!

I'm trying to find a venue in or around Stevenage, Herts or Bedfordshire that we can have a BBQ or Hog Roast for our Wedding Breakfast that can be provided or that we can supply ourselves rather that the traditional 'sit down meal'.

We also wanted to get married outside if possible but if not thats not a big issue.

I have spent days ans days searching for a nice location that will provide what we want but it's next to impossible!!

If anyone has and ideas on venues please help me!!

Thanks

    Hi there

It's not legal to get married outside unless it's a jewish wedding. you can have a humanist wedding or a blessing outside, but you'd have to have a civil wedding as well in a registered place (register office, church or other licenced venue).

That's not completely true. I believe the law is that it has to be a permanent structure not building. Therefore some places have gazebos. Or as one hitcher on here had - a dovecote. So her ceremony was outside..

    Thanks everyone!

Moonpig....good luck for your driving test!

Zippy is right you can get married outside but it would have to be a covered structure eg a gazebo, which is what we would be looking to do (sorry i should have pointed that bit out) Thankyou though!

Peter, we looked at Coltsfoot but im not sure we have enough 000's on our budget for them!!

It's nowhere near Bedfordshire, but if you're prepared to travel, have a look at Polhawn Fort in Cornwall.

You hire the place for 3 or 4 days (depending if you want week or weekend) and have it completely to yourselves for that time. There are bedrooms which can comfortably sleep 20 people and they can recommend caterers, including people who do hog roasts for about £13 per head! It's just spectacularly beautiful and you can get married in the gazebo which overlooks the sea =D

My fiancé and I have our hearts set on it for our wedding

    Hi ya

Zippy is right, legally you need to be under a permanent structure such as a gazebo or summer house (Jewish ceremonies aren't actually a legal ceremony, thus they can be carried out outside).

I actually planned an 'outdoor' ceremony and reception in Bedfordshire last year at a lovely venue called Shuttleworth Park near Biggleswade. They have a lovely summerhouse which is licensed for ceremonies and gorgeous grounds for the photos. Last year they had a permanent marquee which they used for the reception.

If you go to your local council's website, or the county council website, they should give you a list of all venues registered to hold civil ceremonies, and you can go from there.

good luck, and welcome, btw! ?

    Hi all

    Thanks for your replys!!

Sammy the fort in Cornwall sounds lovely (and i LOVE Cornwall itself!) but it would be too far away for family etc.....Thanks for the idea anyway!

I know Shuttleworth but isn't that very expensive? I'll give them a ring tomorrow and see if thry'll do what we're looking for.

The Three Lakes Resturant is beautiful! We've been to look around and had a chat with the wedding advisor there already....thats our only option so far and we just dont want to get ahead of ourselves and jump in for the first venue we looked for. You will have an amazing day there im sure!

    Thanks all again

We had a mid week wedding so it was cheap, it was only £500 for the summer house and the marquee. You can download the brochure from the site for more info.

    Hi Angel

Firstly congratulations, ditto what Zippy said as long as its a permanent structure and licensed ie gazebo you can can married . I am getting married outside its effectively an old summer house and for the legal bits we need to stand undercover but for all the rest we are outside so i get my dream of getting married outside !!!! Weather dependant of course!!!

    Good luck with the hunting....

Sammy i live in Devon and Polhawn Fort is gorgeous my friends recently got married there and it was a gorgeous wedding ....

    Kx
