Help Needed

ColletteS, 19 April, 2012 at 12:58 Posted on Planning 0 5

Hi all

I got married a while ago and found hitched an invaluable resource which I became addicted to, but have now forgotten my login, hence starting from zero.

I'm hoping a few of you lovely brides to be may be able to help me. I know how stressful planning a wedding can be, so I was thinking of starting a wedding adviser service/someone to do the initial donkey work.

The idea would be for brides to be who either couldn't afford a wedding planner or wanted to plan their own but wanted some initial help. For example, the bride to be would complete an online form indicating type of wedding, location, no. of guests, budget etc, what was most important to them. Then I would do the initial research and provide a shortlist of venues, photographers, cars etc based on their requirements and produce a personalised timeline and budget with some questions to ask suppliers etc. I would also possibly provide a personalised folder and an email query service.

I'd love it if any of you were prepared to spend a few minutes of your time giving me feedback on this idea - whether you would use it and how much you would be prepared to pay for such a service.

I'd really appreciate any help you could give.

I guess the big question is going to be cost and how much you are able to do compared to what a bride can do in their lunch hours etc.

I think the difficulty for me would be that I have changed my mind a lot during planning and what I initially thought I would go for has changed as I have planned. I therefore would be concerned that I would be paying for a service that I then didn't actually particularly use or felt I had to use.

I though have had 2.5 years to plan and so have not really had that stress that I would have had if I had had less time.

Therefore overall it is prob not something I would choose to use but then nor would I have chosen to use a wedding planner. I have enjoyed the planning process and would not have particularly wanted to share this with any one other than my OH and my mum.

    Sorry for the negative response!

To be honest it's not something I would bother with, I can do that myself.

Also, if you arent in the area do you really want to be 'recommending' venues, caterers, photographers etc? Because although you might only be providing a list of initial contacts, people would probably assume that you were recommending these suppliers to them.

    Sorry for another negative!

Sorry I don't really see what you are offering thats not already out there if i am honest...this site and most search engienes can do most of the things your proposed service offers and you dont have to pay those.

I would agree with all the other comments I'm afraid. I'm a control freak and have found it really hard to delegate anything. It's frustrating enough communicating everything to the "event manager" that is provided by my catering company and TBH I've left her out of the picture and done everything myself. I actually wish i wasn't forced to have an event manager but it was a forced/necessary part of the package. I just wouldn't want someone else to plan any part of my wedding for me, even/esp in the early stages when the excitement is at its highest. Sorry to dampen your spirits about your idea.
