HELP NEEDED TO FIND A VENUE!!

nickytilly, 22 September, 2008 at 12:30 Posted on Planning 0 12

Hi Everyone,

I have been struggling to find a venue that we are happy with, so I thought that I would ask everyone here for suggestions as the best referel is a personal recommendation.

We are looking for somewhere in the Lake District that can take 50 people for the ceremony, we would like to be able to hire the whole hotel for the weekend, so about 15 rooms would be ideal. We would like a nice view of a lake or a mountain! We are thinking about having a BBQ instead of a formal meal so the hotel needs to be quite flexible.

I hope that someone can help us

Thanks

Nicky x

Really sorry but i cannot help either i am in south wales. have you looked on here they recommend some venues, you could even look on yell .com. there is no harm in going to look around, be careful though cos most venues have minimum numbers for peak time and weekends.

    love the bbq idea though.

    good luck x x

H2B cousin got married at Langdale Chase Hotel on Windermere. She had about 80 there and got married a bit later- think about 3 and we had a sit down meal labout 6 ish. There was then a small buuffet in the evening but no disco but think this was their choice. It was a really nice hotel.

Maybe it's worth looking into- the photos were fantastic.

    Hi Lea,

Thanks for your help. I already have the brochure for Langdale Chase, you are not allowed to have an evening do unless you hire the whole hotel and it's very expensive. It does look amazing though!

What you are after sounds just like our venue, except unfortunatly it was not in The Lakes but in Sctoland!

It was a lovely intimate venue that we had exclusive use of and we turned it into a wedding weekend as all our guests travelled up (we come from East Anglia) to be there from the Friday until the Sunday. It was wonderful.

Good luck with your search and I hope you find some where just as perfect!

    Hi Jo,

Please can you give me the details of the venue, we are not that fussy about staying in the Lakes, I am also originally from East Anglia, I grew up in Castle Hedingham, then moved to Silver End then Coggeshall.

    Thanks

    Nicky

Not very familiar with the area, but went to a wedding a couple of years ago at the Newby Bridge Hotel, which was nice but not on the water. Just across the road was the Swan Hotel which was on the water and really nice looking from outside. My friend preferred that one but couldn't get the date she wanted (got married on anniversary of her first date, so not very flexible!)

    Hi Nicky,

I know Castle Hedingham, been there a few times, an old school friend works as the wedding co-ordinator at the castle there. I would be delighted to give you some info on our venue, as they really were great to deal with.

We got married at Gean House, which is just outside Stirling so really easy to get to from both Glasgow or Edinburgh airports, it is also at the gateway to the highlands so perfect if any of your guests wish to make a short break out of your wedding as several of ours did. The house was actually built as a wedding present, which added a nice romantic touch to it!

The good thing about getting married in Scotland is that you have the choice of either a civil or religious ceremony at the venue (we had a minister) and you can even get married outside if you wish. There is also a choice of rooms inside to hold the reception meal, including a purpose built function room, but we preferred to use the older rooms as they had more character.

We held our ceremony in the billiards Room, our wedding breakfast in the Board Room (Dinning Room) our evening casino was in the Drawing Room and we held our disco in the galleried main hall. It has stunni9ng grounds too with lovely views over the hills.

We hired out both the House and the Lodge in the grounds, which gave us a total of 17 bedrooms (10 in the main house). You can hire the whole estate out for 24 hours exclusive use, which we did and then they let us block book all the bedrooms out for the Friday night at a reduced rate. We thought for what we got, we got a good deal in comparison with other venues we looked at and they were also very flexible with their approach and let us basically chop and change their wedding package to suit us without so much as a frown!

Anyway, here is a link to our photographs (they are all out of order):

    https://myaccount.photobox.co.uk/?album_id=28986598

which show quite a few of the house, and our DVD highlights clip. I have got more pics that we took while up on a [planning visit somewhere if you decide that you are interested.

We love Scotland and even though some of our guests moaned a little when we first told them we would be dragging them up there for our big day, they are so glad we did now as they all agree it was just perfect, and there is just something so romantic about getting wed in Scotland don't you think?

If you have any more questions just give me a shout.

    Hi Jo,

WOW!! Thank you for sharing that with me, what a beautiful venue, definitely what we are looking for. I loved the video to, you looked beautiful. I'll let you know what Lee, my fiance thinks.

I did look at getting married at Hedingham Castle so I would have met your friend! But we live in Preston now and want to stay up north!

    Thanks

Thank you Nicky, you are very kind, it was a whole year ago now, I can't believe how quickly times passes.

There are so many lovely venues about, it is really hard to choose but there is one out there for every one and its loads of fun looking for yours!

Good luck with your planning, I am sure we will chat again sometime.
