Help needed with photographer

Hols333, 20 January, 2012 at 23:29 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hi all,

We thought we had decided on our photographer but are now starting to have second thoughts. He has been a bit slack on replying to emails (taking weeks!) and when it came to paying the deposit he ignored our requests for his bank details. All of this was before Christmas, then 3 days ago we got an email saying he had his Credit Card cloned and so was having trouble with his Currant Account & bank - not sure how that works. Because of this he asked if we could pay the deposit in cash. All this has made me really uncomfortably so we are starting to look for another photographer.

Does anyone think I am over reacting?

Also - Can anyone recommend a photographer in Surrey? we are getting married in Dorking

Long post so thank you for reading ?

    Hi, welcome to hitched

Not sure if your over reacting or not, but your right to question it imo asthe fact he is taking so long to reply to your question could be a sign of unreliability.

Personally I would be hesitant to pay cash and would rather send a cheque if that's a possibility, but if you do pay cash, just make sure you get a receipt.

Also I'v sent you a message regarding photography if you do decide to change photographers.

Hope it works out for you either way.

    Rhys

That's strange, although this site has been experiencing allot of technical issues lately.

I just sent you a message with a link to a sample wedding, the blog post includes most the shot's from the day apart from some formal group shot's etc. so you should get an idea of consistency, rather than just showing you a few cherry picked shot's, so this should give you a more accurate picture on what standard you can expect throughout the day.

    I would be worried too!

I spoke to alot of togs as it's important that i get good raw photos that i can edit myself (i knew my media degree would come in handy one day!)

anyway I liked three people, amanda duncan (who we went with), edwin groover (very very helpful) and steven brooks (AMAZING images), all surrey/kent based.

    hope it helps x

I think a cash payment is unreasonable.

A respectable TOG will be running a business (even if they are part-time), and so they should be more professional.

If you otherwise like their style, give them a call and find out what the problem is.

I think it doesn't sound right tbh. You could write a cheque and it would get paid into their account once sorted.

That way they have payment from you and it's their problem to cash it. Make sure you fill in the payee section.

    Unless it's a tax dodge.

There's nothing wrong with accepting cash on the day, it's common for a lot of services BUT card cloning, three weeks to respond to emails are not good.

Send me a link to them via email and I'll check them out for you.
