Help needed with seating!

Linziloo84, 23 November, 2011 at 13:41 Posted on Planning 0 5

Okay so the problem is.....

We are having a marquee....sit down is for 130/140 people.

Evening guests will probably be around an extra 100 people so taking the total upto appx 240.

Everyone during the day will have a seat obviously, which they'll more than likely stay at for the duration of evening.

The issue is what do we do about seats and tables for evening guests?

There will probably will be enough space for about another 3 round tables (seats 8/10) at one end of the marquee so that would add 24 ish chairs.

The thing I'm concerned about is....are these tables going to look weird set up with no one sitting on them for the whole day?

If we were to take this route of adding 3 more tables surely we would need them set up before hand and not rely on others to set them up once the speeches had finished and before evening guests arrive?

I'm really confused about what to do!

We have also got 6 poseur tables (tall bar tables) with 3 bar stools round each in the bar marquee which will give us 18 seats but i don't feel that's enough?

I know that we don't need to provide seating for all the evening guests as not everyone sits at exactly the same time but they at least need somewhere to put their drink and we have plates for the evening buffet (pig roast) plus salads etc so we can't expect people to stand holding plates surely????

Honestly, any suggestions are welcome as me and OH have gone over this so much and are a bit baffled!

Would be good to get an outsiders view on it ?

x

Spooky... I'm also having this problem, and getting married on the same day, eek!

We are hoping to just add more chairs, I think once the meal is finished you will be able to squash more people round a table. Put may also look into getting some more tables. The catering company we are using are running the whole day for us and have said they will move things around and add any extra tables and chairs.

We are also having the high tables, bought them for a bargain in Asda, but also in the bar/lounge area the plan is to have a couple of sofas.

Oh and dont forget fingers crossed the weather will be lovely so people will go outside, so my plan is to pinch everyones garden furniture for guests to sit out in (fingers crossed) the sun shine Smiley smile

In this respect, a marquee wedding is no different to a venue wedding. I've been to loads of weddings and I've never seen extra seating put out for the evening. Most people will either be dancing, at the bar or mingling with other people.

People will keep their drink in their hand. The only time I'd want to put my drink down would be if I was dancing and even then I'd leave it with someone who was already sitting down.

I've been to a few cause normally they are the seats that dont have the chairs covers on.

The difference is really that the extra cost in adding extra seats/tables, chairs are something like £3.50 each to hire!!! Oh and finding someone to put the chairs out, dont really want that job in your frock, ha. So if you can get away without it its a bonus Smiley smile

    That is strange!?

I had this idea the other night, about putting extra seats on existing tables afterwards so we'd have the seats but no tables.

The only issue we came up with is that people arriving in the evening won't just go sit with people that are already occupying a table that they probably won't know either?

And you certainly can't ask your day time guests to move lol!

Fingers crossed the weather will be dry at least!

Ohhh....I really don't know....it's turning into one of those points that you don't want to think about and hope that it will just miraculously solve itself lol!
