Help - New to SW and just don't get it....

happybird, 12 September, 2009 at 08:59 Posted on Beauty & Wellbeing 0 8

Okay I went and joined thursday after doing WW and coming to a plateu about 6 mths ago. I've only put on 6lbs in that time so I don't think thats to bad.

I went home read through the books and I don't get it, Well it's not that I don't get the red and green stuff but I'm totally lost at Extra Easy and also I feel really limited, I don't always cook everything from fresh (money and kids!) and sometimes like to have something from the freezer etc.. I'm also confuddled on the HE's I've read through some of the recipes in the red and green book and I'm sure they are using more HE's in there recipes than your allowed... maybe SW isn't for me if I can't get my head around it. I'm 3 days in and still haven't started it. I can't think of inspiration for dinners that don't involve a huge cost of fresh meat and H won't just go veggie and I'm not cooking 4 different meals, and I just don't know how or where to start.

Help it's got to be easier than I'm reading it esp after doing WW maybe I'm just confuddled.

please help.

Can you ring your leader? I wish I could help but being veggie means I only ever have green days, so the red days and extra easy stuff doesn't count for me. We tend to batch cook and freeze portions so on the nights we're busy/knackered/can't be bothered we have a selection of stuff to choose from. Things like, curries, chilli, bolognaise, casseroles are good for freezing. baked potatoes and cheese and beans features high up our list of things to have as it's so easy. You're leader might have a weeks menu thing for you to try (which you can alter yourself). If you get into it then it really does work.

Thanks for the replies ladies, I think I just fell off the wagon with WW and didn't know how to get back on it and stick to it, it has been effective for me I think this is why I am maybe struggling with getting my head around slimming world. Maybe i'll have another read through and try and get it.

I think some people are more geared towards couning calories/pts, and some more geared towards eating until full of certain types of food, and not counting, you need to sit down and see where you feel you fit.

To me it seems as you may want to give WW a fresh attempt, as you already know/understand the principles. But I don't know you, so can't say that for sure.

Could you try going back to basics with WW, tracking everything, weighing everything etc, maybe a week of fast start/kick start

How much did you loose with WW and how much have you get left to loose?

I joined SW 7 weeks ago & have found the extra easy plan, well extra easy but if i then try to swap to original or green for a cheese fix ? i get really confused. I didn't understand how extra easy would work when i started, (could kind of get my head round original & green) if that makes sense & i guess i still don't but it does. My OH and 22 month old daugher still eat the same as me (with added treats) and I have lost 1 stone 1 pound in my 7 weeks! The only real trouble with it is that in order not to bump up your syns massively, a lot does have to be cooked from scratch - i bought a pasta sauce and a WW cottage pie then checked their syn value at home and was horrified. It is a bit of a nightmare when i'm working and looking after a toddler - menu planning is almost essential (& i'm not an organised person). Oh, and my fresh fruit bill is now huge! Am just half a pound from my target and it has been well worth doing but whether it has actually changed the way i eat forever (which i think it their aim) i'm not convinced. The only way I see that it works is that it reduces your intake of bread, dairy and fatty products and teaches you to replace naughty snacks with fruit. Good luck with your diet

Thanks for your replies ladies, Sparkly you've done so well, well done you xx

Sweetersong, I think your right I need to sit and think about this. I did two stone with WW last year, fell off the wagon and couldn't get back on, as I said above haven't put o much back on which is good. I think I lost track off what to eat and got bored. I've probably another 2 - 2.5 stone to loose.

Maybe I need to sit down and read the books again... Can anyone give me an idea of what your menu plans are for slimming world? give me some idea.

I've got to get back into SW myself so this weekend I have been menu planning before doing a food shop. I only ever cook the one meal for me, OH and a fussy 8 yr old. Some of the meals I have written on the list are:

Pork chops with butter nut squash with leek mash

    Chicken curry and rice

Lasagne - I always use syns for the white sauce as the quark option I find pretty ? (with Jacket pots and salad)

Chilli (using a bit of quorn mince for extra super speed) with garlic potato wedges

Quorn sausages, mash, peas and onion gravy (using granules)

Pork casserole with mash and veg

Home made beef burgers, wedges and salad
