Help! Not happy with dress :(

bliss_balloons , 16 July, 2015 at 18:47 Posted on Planning 0 14

When I first bought my dress there was no mention of hoops or petticoats but after hearing about them on here I realised that I needed one. I've just had a second dress fitting at the shop and mentioned getting one and they said that no way should a hoop go with my dress, it would ruin it and that if a dress was meant to have a hoop then the designer would provide one.

I sort of just agreed with them while I was there but now looking a pictures I took, the shape is nowhere near how it is on the model and I just don't like how it hangs. I was thinking of buying one anyway and just taking it to my next fitting two weeks before the wedding but I'm worried that this won't be enough time for alterations?

Opinions please does this need a hoop? (It's too big on the hips so they're taking it in)

Just wanted to start with saying your dress looks really lovely! The beading is beautiful and it is such a lovely shape for you.

I think a hoop would definitely be too much for the shape of that dress - have you considered a slip like this: http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_fit-and-flare-slip-550 (apologies for the US link) It might ensure the bottom keeps its flare as you are moving around.

I don't think it needs a hoop. Mine is similar and I tried it with a hoop and it just looked odd.

So I would agree in a sense that if it needed a hoop just like mine it would come with one. But I think you should be able to try it on with a hoop just to see the difference.

it will always look different on a model and someone has stood there and shaped it to make you want to buy it. It doesn't mean it had a hoop.

call the shop and tell them you want to try wit a hoop just to see for yourself, it's your dress. My concern with just buying one is they aren't always cheap and ou might find like me that it actually doesn't look right.

Grr sorry it stopped letting me type.

Its re a really lovely dress and I think you might just need to see it with a hoop to satisfy yourself.

OMG, you have my dress! It's very similar to mine only mine is v-necked. I don't think it needs a hoop either. If I recall correctly, mine falls like yours does, so I was happy about it,

Just out of interest, how far down does the back fall on you, I'm struggling to find a low backed bra in my size and I can't recall just how far it comes down, hope you don't mind me asking, mine's being stored at my MIL's house, so I'll have to wait until the weekend to find out.

I think once the hips have been taken in then it will sit better ? I'm not sure a hoop is right for that dress - it's a stunning dress and you do look lovely in it x

I agree with the others. Once the hips sit right it will fall much better and doesnt need a hoop.

Thanks everyone, this is the model pic and I've seen it on other brides looking this shape. I think it will help a lot once it's taken in at the hips because it's making them look huge at the moment!

It's gorgeous sweetie. Once youve had it taken in it'll sit differently, I think you'll love it after that

I think it looks better on you than the model! Beautiful dress! And I actually like that it 'drapes' a bit, looks much more elegant and natural than in the model picture I think. Did you have the train taken off, or is it just kind of bunched up behind you? That might be one reason why it looks different, on the model it's pulled back so the dress is a bit straightened out, if that makes sense.

It's a beautiful dress. I agree with the others that it doesn't need a hoop. Once it's taken in it will be perfect on you.

Mine needs a hoop because it's heavy and has a lot of layers. The hoop holds it off your legs. Yours looks the opposite being lighter and elegant. I think it looks lovely as it is! ?

It does look lovely Bliss. I think the other ladies are right in what they say, the dress does need bringing in by your hips and then it will look so much better. It’s such a lovely dress!

Its a lovely dress. The shape is down to the way the model is posed, and the skirt will also have been arranged.

I don't think you need anything under it.

Your dress is a very similar shape to mine. I actually bought a hoop but it didn't look right. I love the way it drapes without in the end. I didn't find it wrapped round my legs when walking either which was something I was worried about. Agree to that the dress looks better on you than on the model !
