Help please (?)

Mrs-Soon-to-be-Taylor, 24 January, 2012 at 17:55 Posted on Planning 0 14

Firstly - I just want to say ''Hello'' to everyone (I'm still finding my way on this site lol)

Ok, so... My partner has popped the question, and I was overjoyed Smiley smile

I never thought of myself as the ''marrying'' type, now however, I'm absolutely loving the idea Smiley smile

Although we aren't getting married till summer 2014 I am already looking at dresses, flowers, colour schemes ect.... (Always good to plan early, right? lol) Either that, or I'm stupidly over excited Smiley laugh

The problem is... My mum died when I was 13 and I don't have much of a relationship with my dad.
And, to be honest, I have no close friends, bar two or three.
So, I am quite down, thinking ''OMG - No one will be at our wedding''

I did a rough round up, and literally 20 people will come!

How do I plan such a small wedding? Venues and things have seatings for HUNDREDS of people. Maybe I am over thinking, but... All I can think, is there will be me and Hubby-to-be in a big church with only a handful of people Smiley sad

Hello and welcome, a small wedding can be lovely. My second wedding was a registry office followed by a sit down meal at the local carvery for 14 people and it was a fabulous day. you will find something that suits you

Thanks... I think I am over thinking it at the moment.

My partner actually suggested something very similar to what you said, so yes - It's probably the route we'll end up taking! Smiley smile

There are a lot of people that find difficulty getting a venue because they have too many guests, so not all places cater for the big weddings! There's no harm in emailing/ringing them to see if your numbers would be possible, saves time and hassle when it comes to viewing them only to find out they aren't suitable Smiley smile

    Hello and congratulations.

I just wanted to say i am sorry sorry to hear about your loss of your mum. As for the 20 guests my sister had a wedding with 17 and 2 of them was them and the other their 6month old baby. They had a small ceremony and then a meal in hotle that offered to close off one end of the restaurant for them to have a meal. At first i thought oh i am not fussed on that idea but on the day it all looked so beautiful and she had an amazing day.

She got married at 3pm then had the meal for 5pm and toasts and drinks etc and this all run on until around 8.30pm she then had a further 3 couples meet them in the bar/ lounge area afterwards and it was so lovely quiet and romantic.

Hello and welcome...there are lots of places that would cater for a small reception, where are you thinking of getting married ? have you considered getting married away from home? we got married at Gretna Green and it was so romantic ...ideas are endless.

    Hello, and welcome!!

Why dont you go abroad - instead of spending loads in the UK why not head somewhere with your handful of friends and have a romantic beach ceremony. It's what we would have done if our Grandparents weren't around to see us get married.

Good luck in whatever you choose x

Yes, that is the same here, my partner & I and my son are inc. in the figures.

Your sisters wedding sounded just lovely! Smiley smile
I think, when you see all these venues and hear of others getting married and having 150+ guests, I just felt disheartened by the lack of guests.

Thanks for your reply!! Smiley smile

    Congrats doll!!!!!!!!

mines in spring 2014 and ive already filled two planners with ideas and tips!

i think 20 is a lovely number it means that you will have a lovely day about the two of you and not all the extras!!!

if your having a church wedding why not choose a smaller quaint one that has a church hall? you can have your wedding breakfast and party in there! there are some really nice DIY styles in wedding blogs where they have decorated church halls and they look spectacular!!!!! ill have a little trawl through and see if i can find the links for you to look at!

If you do want it in a hotel why not choose a smaller hotel boudoir hotel? these can be reasonably priced and the smaller spaces will fit the size of your wedding!!!!

plus it will be lovely to have a smaller wedding and not have to invite and pay for relatives you have never met and their partner/children and people you think you should invite and their +1s, instead you will have the people that matter the most to you!!

    Aww, congratulations! Smiley smile

I don't feel as bad now, getting all these thoughts and ideas about our wedding!

My OH has been laughing at me spending hours online, ''oooh'ing and ahh'ing'' at dresses, cakes, table setting ect lol

And, the more people talk of smaller weddings, the more I warm to the idea! Smiley smile

I'd love a small quaint church, my OH's parents live near Morecambe and there is a beautiful little church (St. Peters, Heysham)
I may actually enquire about it!

    Loads of thanks!
    I'm feeling better already! x

We are only having a small amount of people during the day, by choice. There will be around 100/110 people there for the night reception, but only 30 during the day. We are being married in the local Registry Office (which is beautiful) and sits 40, and then having a sit down meal in the Hotel next door before going onto a different place for the night reception. We only booked everything in October and are doing it all on a budget, which was another reason for having a small amount during the day but i cant wait! Its gonna be amazing Smiley smile
