Help please: August honeymoon destination suggestions

Clare247, 20 November, 2010 at 11:45 Posted on Planning 0 15

Hello all,

We're getting married in July 2011 and are looking at honeymoon destinations. I would LOVE to go to Cuba (I've just always wanted to go there and the combination of Caribbean beaches and Havana culture sounds perfect) but I know that August is not the best time of year to go so have scrapped that...

Do any of you have suggestions for something similar but where we would have good weather in August? I suppose we are looking for somewhere where you can both relax and explore - I couldn't cope with two weeks on a beach or two weeks climbing mountains but something in the middle would be good!

Thanks in advance

We get married in august too. not sure of your budget but i went to cuba and mexico before (feb/march time though) but i much prefered mexico. theres alot to do there, you feel safe however it is more expensive. cuba is still a 3rd world country and it does show sometimes. ive also been to dominican republic and that was during hurricane season. we had the odd impressive storm but it dried out as quick as it started. we did have a small hurricane whilst we were there, it did more damage in america i believe but the hotel notified us, gave us advice etc and it was all fine. we have booked mexico and we go early september, the temperatures are still great and the rainfall is average to the rest of the year. and lets keep our fingers crossed if we do get a hurricane its not too bad!!

Thanks guys, I've been to Asia in the rainy season before and it rained really hard for an hour and was then fine all day but there's something about the name hurricane season that is very worrying, but judging on your experience maybe it's not that bad after all. Third world doesn't bother me at all, so maybe I should just be brave and go to Cuba...

Any other suggestions people? Am currently considering Mozambique or Mauritius.

    Hey

We were in Dominican during hurricane season: The weather honestly didn't bother us as it was totally fab!! But it is a risk that you take!

We are going on honeymoon in middle of August and heading to Mexico - if there is a hurricane, so be it... We'll cope! ?

So my advice is, if that is where you really want to go - do it! (Just get good insurance! hehe)

There's a few suggestions here - my vote would be the South Pacific but then I'm biased!

We're going to Sri Lanka for a week and then the Maldives for a week ? We were worried about rain but we've been told there'll probably only be short heavy downpours and it's where we really want to go so we're risking it! x

Hey, i used to be a travel agent and i had some customers who went to mexico in august and there was a hurricane and they were moved to another hotel. They were moved to a hotel with the same star rating as their original though. Not trying to be a miserable cow but the recent hurricane in october hit the western coast of cuba. However its a risk you take, there not highly common, so if thats where you have your heart set on then go! If your worried i would go for one of the other carribean islands that are more sheltered, like barbados and avoid mexico. I went to barbados about 5 years ago and it was lovely. They have stunning beaches and lots to do. Some of the excursions we did were island safari in 4x4's and we went round the entire island and through boggy sugar cane fields which was very rough but super fun in a 4x4 and the jungle(which was amazing!) went on a catamaran for the day and did snorkelling, went on a submarine. I think you can also do day trips to local islands like st lucia? We went to a organised beach party in the evening with shows and my mum and sister went to a rum factory. My mum who is a super chicken said she would like to go back a hire a car to explore the island so if she felt safe exporing the island on her own then most people would!

Other places that are reccommended at this time of year are mauritius, ecuador, europe and hawaii x

We are honeymoonin in Aug also. We are heading to Vegas for 2 weeks as there is lots to see and do in the surounding areas as well as in Vegas itself. The weather is also very gd that time of year. But i dont think u should let a certain season put u off where u want to go. Im sure u only intend to do this once so u should follow ur heart and go where u really want.

I'd head off to Africa - Tanzania - loads to do from Safari to climbing Kili (if you're feeling that energetic) and then heading off to Zanzibar which is fab. Depending on when you're going you could also pop in for a wedding drink as I'm getting married in Dar es Salaam in August Smiley smile

I think from my research, most of the Hurricanes tend to hit Cuba, Mexico etc in October, so we are taking the risk.
