help please... style of BM's dresses

ColetteG, 2 August, 2009 at 11:08 Posted on Planning 0 4

Can any of you bride-to-be's recommend a modern sassy BM dress for BM's in their 30's, apple shapes.

Was thinking maybe lace-up, corset style back to give a hourglass effect. Or maybe empire line, to flatter the mummy tummy area. Open to any length of skirt and material.

Any links would be appreciated. Would consider a 2-piece, pref fm a range with co-ordinating flower girl dresses.

Thanks in advance for any replies, I dont get on hitched much as I have a toddler and newborn to look after, so please do not think I am rude if I do not reply for a couple of days.

    Hi Colette G,

I'm a newbie on here, although I've been reading for ages only just never took the plunge to register till now. 😳 I have the same issue with my BM's and think they're going with something like this (when they finally make up their minds!): http://www.monsoon.co.uk/invt/55006172&bklist=icat,5,shop,women,dresses,eveningdresses as the little gathers flatter the tummy area really nicely!

This is the site I'm getting my BM's dresses from, probably my dress too. I didn't pick anything out for you, as you've got more of an idea in your head, but there's over 30 designers, so lots and lots of choices at discount rates! Only problem is it's an American site so quite high delivery fees. HTH Donna xxx

    Hi ColetteG,

I'm not having any bridesmaids but I'm wearing a bridesmaids dress as my wedding gown (tight budget, long story) and I have a lil mummy tummy of my own. Halterneck dresses are good to draw the eye away from the waist area, and I'm going for a tea-length halter neck in ivory, a tad Marilyn Monroe but ti will show off fabulous shoes. Maybe they could wear some eyecatching shoes and a shorter length to draw the eye down.

Some great ideas here, I will put them to the bride. I am thinking maybe need separates, so I and other adult BM can have same skirt but different top, or two differnet styles of dresses in same colour & material. I like the idea or tea length skirt, halter neck/empire line, but think bride may prefer more traditional look with us all in same dress and full length skirt. Will go with whatever she wants.

    Thanks for replying.
