Help re music/entertainment!

kaz9274, 11 January, 2010 at 14:01 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hi ladies I had an idea of having a tribute band who can perform a range of music, pop stars etc for a few hours then followed by a disco.

Do you think this would be a good or bad idea? or even can this be done? I am kinda thinking of what you get in pubs and clubs has anyone had or seen this before? x

Cool- I live in London but have a house in Leith Smiley smile

I was going to suggest my band- They do 3 x 45 minute sets of thinkgs like kylie, robbie etc and are musically trained so record their own backing tracks too... then inbewtween sets they provide a disco...

Sorry it's not much help being this far south but they do exist! x

If budget allows I would suggest having both a band and professional wedding DJ. Its more common for a band to do two 45 minute sets. Either way, if your timings are 8 till one (which is the norm out here), thats 5 hours of entertainment so your DJ would feature quite heavily so having a decent provider is essential in maintaining the atmosphere.

    Hope that helps

Hey, I think it's a fab idea! I always see bands advertised in those free local wedding mags / booklets and at wedding fairs, so sure you will be spoilt for choice! Good luck Smiley smile

    Hi Kaz,

I suggest considering my band Maybe Myrtle Tyrtle for your wedding. we're from Newcastle and are one of Uk's "finest folk-country-rock bands" you'll likely to hear. we have a pedigree of leaving people from all walks of life grinning from ear to earSmiley smile They play song from through-out the ages and can play upon request. We are a six piece band of fiddle, sax, guitars, keyboard, vocals, guitars, bass and drums. should you need a reference we have played a few wedding now and are due to play a wedding at a castle in Yorkshire this Sat. We have a reportiore list of songs as long as your arm, and also are known around the country and beyond for our Original songs, but i guess you'll just want covers, which is all fine.

please check out our originals www.myspace.com/maybemyrtletyrtle

    and some covers on www.myspace.com/maybemyrtletyrtleb

and let me know what you think,

    sincerely,

    Roger James

I'm with Sandy Castle on this one. (Oops I mean Sandysounds)

hehe , although band's can and often do provide a disco as part of their package, to date I have yet to see one that is as good as a Professional Wedding DJ.

However on the same note, ensure you vet your DJ properly as many claim to be Professional and can be far from it.

It all boils down to budget, if you can afford both then great if not then sit down and make some choices.

How's your moving heads these days Sandy?

I had to sign up a fresh acc on here my old one has vanitto'd, used to post under the guise of "FriendlyDJ" some years ago (6 yrs or so).

    Thanks Sandy..

I was here many years ago for about 3 years, but since then I've globe trotted (read as forum trotted) and now I've found my way back. hehe

I provided services for a few Brides off Hitched back in 2004 I believe, I recall this forum can keep you quite busy when the posting really starts.

Used to be 13 pages worth of threads every day in one section alone, not sure if it's that busy now.
