Help!!!! Wedding breakfast or buffet??

Mrs_hughes2B, 4 July, 2013 at 23:25 Posted on Planning 0 4

My partner and I are having trouble with timings and what to do, first of all we were going to have a meal now we are thinking about just a buffet.

We are getting married at 3pm in church, service is expected to be at least 45 minutes long then by the time pictures have been taken and day guests have arrived at the venue (5 mins drive from church) it'll be around 4.30, I'm guessing food for a meal wouldn't be served until at least 5pm and evening guests will be arriving from 7pm, if I don't have a meal I am not sure what time to get the buffet ready for?? And how will I sit my guests down to listen to speeches, will I do them before we eat or after? I'm so confused as to what we should do, evening guests are going to be wanting something to eat too off the same buffet, so I tell them to come earlier and make my day guests wait a few hours? Ok with the wedding being so late on my suggestion would be just a small selection of finger foods for the guests i.e canapes and light nibbles for when the arrive from the church and then when the evening guests arrive i would serve the main buffet at say 8pm. or suggestion two would be a small simple buffet to be served such as a couple of meats salads and jacket potatoes mini ones with a choice of canapes then the main buffet later with hot food such as curry rice and a veg curry for the safe vegi option unless you know there are no vegis going. plus platters of meats salads baguettes quiches etc. good luck and enjoy your day x

We have everything all in one place but our day runs like this

    Ceremony 3:00-3:20pm

Drinks reception and photos 3:20<4:50pm drinks reception and photos

    5:00pm Dinner

    7:00pm Evening reception

    8:00pm cake cutting,

8:30 canapes, cheese and cake served

    11:30<12:00am winding down to end.

If you only want to feed people once is it an option to invite everyone to the day? Although if food was served at 5:00 you maybe need a light snack or something served later in the evening too.

If its not possible to invite everyone all day you could maybe have bacon rolls or something similar served around 9:30ish

I think so, somerby13 gave you good suggestions, go for light food at starting and then serve delicious buffet when main crowd is there.

We're getting married at 3.45pm in the local registry office, expecting to be done by 4.30ish, we've invited our evening guests to come at 5pm, so a little unconventional and then we will have a buffet at around 6-6.30 which everyone will be welcome to. We're only have a smallish wedding though - 40 to ceremony and another 50 to the evening.

We are getting married at 3.15pm, reception 4pm, food served 5pm, sausage rolls/cheese and cake at 9pm. We are not actually having evening guests but if we were we would stick to those timings and have them arrive 7.30pm.Re seating people, we are having a buffet but it will be served on platters at the tables - so no queueing up etc. Might that be an option?
