Help!! Wedding dress issue

Daisy82, 24 October, 2009 at 18:04 Posted on Planning 0 7

I'm getting married in Sept 2010 so not that long to go now.

I'm now thinking seriously about dresses. Our budget is really tight and I have been looking on ebay. There are a few gorgeous dresses on ebay that are made to measure that come from China. Has anyone else or anyone you know bought one of these dresses before? Is it reliable and what did it look like when it arrived? I'm so stressed and confused.?

Thanks for any help anybody can give me

    Hi Vickstix

I am sure there was a Hitcher who did this - think it's Moya50 (sorry Moya if it's not you!) and it was a beautiful dress that fit perfectly but then she found a slight stain on it or something if I remember rightly, so you just need to be aware that those sort of things can happen.

Otherwise you could take a look on ebay, I know loads of brides have had a great result there, or another second hand site - e.g. https://www.preloved.co.uk/ and I know there are more.

    Hope that helps a bit!

My sisters sister-in-law ordered her dress off ebay. They took a picture from a huge wedding dress company and promised to copy it. Her Aunt had to take it to pieces and put it back together as it was very badly made and material was very cheap. I think if it seems to good to be true then it possibly is.

Saying that have you thought about the sales, I have spoken to lots of people who got their dresses in the sale and got a bargain!!!

    Good luck x

    Hi

Have you looked at lightinthebox.com? I know they do wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses and I know afew hitchers have brought bridesmaid dresses from there and the quality seems good. My friend actually ordered her bridesmaid dresses from there and she was really happy with the result. I myself will be ordering my BM dresses from there after xmas - I know BM dresses are quite abit different from your dress but it might be worth having a look.

    xx

Yes indeedy it was me that ordered one of ebay and personally I wouldnt recommend it, I thought ut was worth a try but im glad i was prepared to have to buy a 'real' dress.

The dress was beautiful and if I hadnt tried on shop dresses I might have been hapy with it but it was no where near as quality as dress shop dresses and I just didnt feel special in it. I was lucky that the dress had a slight mark on it so i think I should get my money back but otherwise you wont get a refund if you dont like it. Things to consider are that the pictures on bay of e arethe designers pictures not the pictures of the dress you will get, you will get a copy thats done by them looking at the designer picture. The material they use is not the same material as in the shop and not the same quality, and the detailing isnt the same, the stitching is obvious and down to the little details like instead of swarorski (sp) diamonds/crystals they use sequins. So the dresses are quite different to the designer ones they are 'copying'.

Its a tough decision but if you are on a very tight budget and you werent going to try a dress shop dress on then it may be ok.

I hope that helps and doesnt confuse things too much! x
