HELP! What style and colour bridesmaid dress would you put with this dress? **FLASH**

spaceman spiff, 11 June, 2012 at 08:05 Posted on Planning 0 12

Hi - I've picked my dress and have it a home already, but I'm struggling to decide what style and colour of bridesmaid dress to go with. I want the dresses to be something they could wear again, therefore probably knee length, and there is a chance one of them could be a few months pregnant. They are all slender girls, two are very fair skin and fair hair, one is more pale irish skin with dark hair. And I'm struggling. Here's a flash of me in dress.. (sorry if picture is huge!)
and here is the colour match from the band in the middle of the dress...
any thoughts on colours of dresses and styles? Thanks!!

I agree that a knee length, straight dress would be good. I'd go with a pastel colour, esp if the girls are pale. Either strapless like yours, or with small straps so the neckline is similar. Possible even a champagne colour, but it may not make your dress stand out as the bride. What season is it? What colours do you like?

Hi, I'm in a similar dilemma - my bridesmaids are all blonde and fair and I didn't want us all to look washed out in similar 'champagne' coloured dresses, but was struggling to imagine a contrasting colour. Yesterday I discovered the 'Alfred Angelo' website. Even if you don't like this dress, the website is quite handy, because you can change the colour of the sash to 'champagne' and keep changing the dress colour to see what goes nicest?

I'm liking the dusky pinks, cornflower blues and sage greens, all of which sound like they would suit your bridesmaids.

Let us know what you go with!! xxx

    That's my dress! Excellent choice.

My BMs were in cream and grey. More pics on report link in my signature.

    Hi,

Your dress is beautiful. It is so delicate. You will look so pretty. How about a deep latte colour or pale baby blue for the bridesmaids. I would keep the colours subtle.

    Hope that helps

I'd go for chiffon over satin, and personally I'd keep the colours neutral or pastels. Nice and subtle but still pretty. I also think if you do like 'brights' then maybe a cornflower blue or a sunny yellow would look nice.

Grey (goes with everything), if you want something tonal coral would work or rich aubergine if you want high contrast.

Thanks for the replies guys, I really like the style of one of the BHS bridesmaid dresses, but really not certain that I could make it work if one of the BMs has a pregnant bump. I like the style of a few of the Dessy ones, but I'm not prepared to pay that price for them. I was a BM this time last year and in a Dessy dress and felt the quality really didn't reflect the price. I've sent a couple of designs to the Birmingham dress lady on ebay to see if she could make something along those lines, and the prices she came back with are really very reasonable, but I've read very mixed things about her work. Anyone any thoughts on her? Or anyone used a reasonably priced dressmaker in the nottingham/derby area that they would recommend for making BM dresses?

Oh its so difficult to decide!!

And yes Kharv, it definitely is your dress - I emailed you about it when I was in two minds about whether to get it, and you were just so enthusiastic about it that I couldn't resist! And I love it!

The dress is by Justin Alexander and is style 8465. You can get it full length too, and all in ivory, but the coffee tea length was the one that excited me! It's a great dress and really creates curves.
