Help with a role for my friend at the wedding

sarahjane82, 10 February, 2009 at 21:01 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hi i am hoping you all might have some ideas!! Basically I always thought i would just have my 2 sisters as bridesmaids and keep it at that, however, I have become really good friends with our Best Mans fiancee and wanted her to be a part in our day too, im just not 100% convinced on asking her to be a bridesmaid (long story but dont want to upset anyone as i have only known her for 2 years in which time we have become close and spend a lot of time together etc, but some of my other friends i have known much much longer, i just dont spend as much time with them etc but still wouldnt want to offend any of them as they are still important friends to me!, also our Best Man was married to one of my friends previously and even though they have been separated for a long time, im not sure how she would feel about his new girl being my bridesmaid!!) So basically i am wondering if there is anything else i could ask her to do? Im not sure she would feel comfortable doing a reading as i think she would worry too much about that! But if anyone has any ideas would really appreciate any help! Thanks sarah

Could you ask her to be a witness without it offending anybody else?

She could do a reading in the ceremony?

I have a slightly simillar situation - although money related rather than anything else, and I plan to ask her to either do a reading or be a witness....

Do you think she would like to be an usherette?

I'm in a very similar situation and have asked mine to wear my engagement ring during the ceremony (I'm lucky she has the same size fingers, so that might be an option for you?)

We've also asked her and her fiance to pick the music for when we're signing the register and the music we'll walk out to.

I'm calling her an usherette but not sure if that's the right word as we have 2 ushers doing the usual usher things!

Yes, it is a legal requirement to have two witnesses, even at a civil ceremony.

My brother was married in a registry office and had no bridesmaids as it was very small, but he asked me to be a witness and it was a real honour, but a very simple and small job on the day!
