Help with colour scheme and theme

chloe_chloe, 3 October, 2011 at 14:26 Posted on Planning 0 9

I feel like I am going crazy trying to decide on a colour scheme and theme for our wedding and so would be grateful for any suggestions!

We are getting married next August in Lake Garda at an 11th century fortress (which pretty much consists of just walls, grass and some olive trees). Weather permitting, we will have the ceremony and the reception outside, with everything being candle lit in the evening.

With the outdoor location, I originally wanted to keep the colours quite neutral and natural (green, ivory, pale pink), but now I´m wondering whether it would be a bit boring and "samey".

I then started considering having a bright accent colour instead (maybe a bright blue, as the venue has views down to the lake). I don´t know whether this would work when it gets dark in the evening though.

The other thing to bear in mind is that, if the weather is bad, we will have to have dinner in the marquee which is basically a blank, white canvas. In that case some colour will be needed to stop it looking really bland.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received! Here is a link to the venue (sorry for the link, don´t know how to insert pics!)

Hi hun , I think your ideas of pale greens and pinks and ivories sounds lovely. You could maybe have an English tea party theme with bunting pehaps and china cups , sort of vintage themed maybe? I love the idea of a traditional little wedding. Try looking in some wedding magazines or type your colours into google and ask for images and wedding and lots of ideas will come up in those colours. I hope that helps.

    Lots of hugs xx

    What a fantastic venue.

Personally I wouldn't introduce a brighter colour. I think greens, whites and pale pinks will look great. Apple green and rose pink added to the marquee white will look really classic and elegant.

I don't often get venue envy but I have it right now!

    Hi

I think both of the ideas are good, personally I think the bright blue would be lovely and will tie in with the lake. Would also look good with candle light.

I think the English tea party would be great, they are traditionally baby blue dusky pink and ivory, so that has the colours to tie in the lake the fortress and a bit of quaint english way of life that would look amazing with the scenery of an italian wedding.

I think a nice olive green would look nice too though with maybe a gold accent.

    Hope that helps

When I saw the photos, I thought of gold? Olive greens, gold and ivory?

    Beautiful venue & location.

You could have a variety of colours with the setting.

Either use the water as inspiration using cobalt Blue and yellows to bring in the sunshine.

    Hi ladies!

Thanks for the replies and great suggestions! Looks like the opinions are pretty much split down the middle, making it difficult to decide! Google images here I come!

I really like the idea of an English tea party, but all of the china (plain white) is already included in the price set by the caterers, so I´m loathe not to use it.

This is what I thought when I read the first bit, before I got to this sentence. I think it would look lovely.

Green and ivory sounds perfect for your venue, but if your thinking about bolder or brighter color, blue or yellow will work well with green and ivory.
