Help with dates!

PureAnnie, 7 January, 2014 at 23:29 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hi ladies!

I am new here and just looking for a bit of help, although I know ultimately I will have to decide some input would be so helpful.

My partner and I got engaged on January 1st as its our Anniversary, such a lovely surprise! We are trying to set a date and we both like the idea of New Years Eve, then hopefully the celebrations will go through onto our Anniversary.

The only thing is I am assuming that date would be very expensive (we are thinking a home wedding with a marquee) and cold. Would it be worth maybe looking at 30th December or even January the 1st?? Or go with flow and go for an August wedding??

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you Smiley smile

Welcome and congratulations! It sounds like you both really want a New Year's Eve wedding so I say go for it. I'm not sure about costs as not looked into this myself but if you're having it at home I imagine it should be doable, but yes the weather needs some consideration. I'm sure some brides with more experience in this area will come along to give advice.

I would LOVE to go to a NYE wedding. If you are having it at home I don't see why it would be massively more expensive - the main thing to look out for is availability of suppliers I would have thought. But if you have plenty of time to plan it shouldn't be an issue. Jan 1st is a terrible day for a wedding. ? Go for new year!

I've been to a NYE wedding and it was amazing. We all had plenty of notice and it was great. I can't comment on the cost of things but if you want it go for it. Plus you could start your anniversary married.

I would also love to go to a NYE wedding. I'm not really a fan of new year so to have a wedding to go to would be brilliant!

Suppliers wise - I would think booking early is going to be the main thing. You may not have the full choice of suppliers but I think you should be fine. Photographer and florists are two I would be looking at very early on - now, really, if you're thinking NYE 2014.

You may want to consider artificial flowers instead of fresh - many people do this and they look fantastic these days. That would probably save you a fair amount of hassle as you can sort those whenever.

I have been to a wedding on the 30th which was fine. I don't think I'd fancy the 1st.

I'm positive they will have done.

One extra point which you may well have thought of - a marquee wedding at home is by no means a budget option. You would undoubtedly be able to get a hotel cheaper - of course that may not be what you want but just thought I'd mention it! I think an at home marquee wedding is about £5k-£7k not including any food or drink.

    Congratulations!

As already advised, marquee's arent by any means, the cheap option & it might be worthwhile looking at other venue options. I am getting married on 28th December & saved over £1000 on the venue because of the date as it tends to be very quiet between Christmas & New Year. We plumped for that date as we thought alot of people tend to be off work & at a loose end during this festive period.

I would love to go to a NYE wedding. I always NYE a bit of a let down so a wedding would be awesome!

I imagine it would potentially work out cheaper than an August wedding too.
