Help with entertainment please!

car822499, 22 June, 2010 at 17:37 Posted on Planning 0 4

Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations or ideas for our entertainment. We're getting married in December at Durham and are stuck with this one as it's just so vast. Ideally we would like a live band that would do a bit of disco. We like classical/jazz/cheese/pop/easy going etc, basically anything except rap, street and other types that we call 'thud thud music'! We don't have a huge budget and I think that's where we're hitting the brick wall. We've seen and heard people we like but they are asking into thousands and we simply can't afford it. We had thought about approaching local music schools but there would be problems with public liability insurance etc.

Any help would be really appreciated with this as it's completely doing my head in!!! ?

Many, many thanks.

The mix of music you like does seem quite a tall order for a band. Why not consider a DJ. They can provide the variety of genres you want, you can submit a playlist, choose the type of music you want, know that it will be original recordings, instruct what music not to be played. A good wedding DJ will do more than just press play.

When you mention DJ....most people think of thud thud music at a loud volume. It doesn't have to be like that. For my two weddings this week it's Irish folk and country for one and Indie rock for the other! One has requested no cheese and the other has a little sprinkling of it!

    Hi Car

We are getting married in Middlesbrough and have booked the Dean Solomon Band - check them out. They do a wide range of music and cover the whole of the north east... and were very reasonable price. I have been speaking with a chap called Pete who is very helpful.

    Where are you getting married?

Thanks for the recommendation. I've emailed them asking for an approximate price. They seem really good from their sound clips and stuff. We're getting married at St Hild & St Bede college. It's part of the university but is really unique. My partner's friend is the chaplain there and will be marrying us. Where abouts are you getting married?

Hi Car, We are getting married in small village church near Yarm and then the reception is in the Wainstone Hotel in Middlesbrough. Only 62 days to go... Eeek!!

I've just googled the college and it looks fab! Good find!

Drat! Just typed a reply and lost it. Grrr!!

I think I went to the Wainstones years ago for a meal and really enjoyed it. It's a lovely quaint place in the middle of a village isn't it? I don't think I'd be able to find it again! Thanks for passing on the band name. I gave them a ring and, although they sound right up our path, they are more expensive than others I've spoken to. I'll still keep them on the list though.

Your wedding will soon come round. Have you got everything sorted? I can understand how some people get quite stressed planning a wedding; I'm not at that state yet thankfully!
