Help with invites..

Nessa_EssexBride, 24 March, 2014 at 13:17 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hi all,
I need a bit of help, on the invitations.
Are you all splashing out on invitations or you doing your own invites??
How much are you spending on invite??
Any online site or blogs, I'm open to them all, to have a look.
Thanks in-advance for all your help.

For drinks only guests I made them on vista print. So happy with those invites!

I'm supposed to be making the invites for the people who are invited to the meal, but it's a time consuming and boring task, and I might give up and buy ready made ones..

As with anything wedding related, you can essentially spend anywhere between £0 and infinity on invitations, and hand-crafting is definitely an option if you're that way inclined. There are a few sales on at the moment - in the hitched invitations section and at PaperShaker for example - which can make ready made invitations a reasonable option.

I am a sucker for beautiful designs, which does make me hanker after all sorts of gorgeous matching invitation suites, but I can't help thinking that they'll be on people's desks for a few weeks and then get thrown away so am reluctant to spend much more than £1 per head, especially as I'm likely to need to print lots of information sheets to go with them, as OH's lot are already asking for itineraries for the whole weekend (I feel like this is turning into an American week long celebration ... but that's a tale for another day).

I designed and printed really simple cards for our engagement party, and was considering doing the same for the wedding, but also quite like the idea of readymade ones we can just tweak, so that I don't have to spend hours on design software.

It's probably also worth bearing in mind the over all tone of your wedding - if you're going for a rustic theme, then homemade slightly rough around the edges styles probably fit really well, where as if it's all high concept or around a particular theme, you may be more easily able to find what you're looking for online than make it yourself.

    Hey,

I just got mine from Vista Print. I was really lucky as when I went to buy the invitations they were 55% off so I paid about £30 for 60 invitations with envelopes. They great thing is they are quite big so on the front we had the design and the essential info. Then the back was plain which was great as we have a lot of extra information about hotels, transport etc so it meant we could add this on the back at no extra cost.

I've just done mine... I had a budget of about £2.50 per invite. The only ones I could find for that price 'ready made' looked really cheap so I decided I'd be better off doing my own. I found a company called Sparkles & Stuff who actually sell all the DIY stuff including the pocketfolds but they also print the personalised inserts for you too so it was the best of both worlds really. Their website is www.sparkles-and-stuff.co.uk. I then just decorated them with a nice lilac ribbon and brooch and they looked amazing even if I do say so myself!! Total price was less than £2 too.

I'd say that it's better to spend more on something like a table plan than invites, as they'll be in all your wedding photos.

I am having mine made by a local printer, I wouldn't know where to start if i was making them myself. It's costing me £95 for 70 invites, plus I will have around £20 for postage for the ones I can't hand deliver x

I found mine on imagine doing it yourself.com. I think they work out about £1.87 each.

We are designing our own and getting a local printer to print them.
For 120 evening postcards, 35 rsvp cards, 35 daytime invites it is costing us £28.

Then i have bought pearl hearts to stick on and envelopes on ebay. in total it will cost us approx £60 all in.

I guess it all comes down as to how much you want to spend?

You can get some great deals on vista print or such like sites if you want something simple and printed. Maybe 'tart' them up a little white ribbon, rhinestones or diamantes.

Many of the invites I make for customers comes down to 'I want this to be the first impression to our wedding' so want a splash out a little.

If you plan on making your own, factor in materials, even down the the little things like glue/tape and time because sometimes there not all so straight forward as they seem.

Whatever the plan, good luck in your search.

    Jen x
