Help with mascara, foundation and lipstick that stays on!

MrsK, 11 June, 2009 at 22:21 Posted on Planning 0 11

Hi, had my make up trial last week, no pics as can't find camera lead!, poor excuse! Anyway, me being my normal dippy self forgot to ask what sort of make up she used. Basically she did my eyes brilliantly, albeit her mascara seemed a tad 'clumpy'! but didn't like the colour of my lips, she tried 2 different colours and tbh didn't like either enough to wear on the big day! The foundation stayed 'put' for around 10 hours and needed re-touching with bronzer. So, I'm either going to get her to use my products (she is fine with this) or do my make up myself, my make up didn't look much different apart from my eyes looking slightly more defined.

So ... what mascara (waterproof), foundation, bronzer and lipstick do you recommend to stay put?

I found a fabby mascara the other day - I've fallen in love with it.

Clinique Lasting finish... fan-bloody-tastic stuff. Really lengthening and defining and stays on ALL day. Put mine on at 7am this morn and still looking good now...

I have bought an amazing product for lips, its from MAC and its a lip stain, it stays on all day and sometimes I even wake up the next morning with it still on, really hard to get off. Its around £16 I think and I know thats expensive but I spent alot of money trying to find a lipstick that stayed on but they always came off. My mum bought a lip stain from boots but it comes off after a few hours.

I have found Laura Mercier primer and foundation to be very good at staying put (with clinique powder on the top) - bought as special occasion and fall back in case I don't like my make-up trial and lasted all day at my friend's wedding. You have to get it from John Lewis or Selfridges though.

Max Factor Lasting Finish lipstick is a definite and good value too along with the Lasting Finish foundation which I've been using for a while now.

mascara I tend to flit between a few but Diorshow is good and a waterproof mascara has a better longevity than normal.

Mascara - No7 Intense Volume waterproof. Bauled my eyes out and it never shifted, plus several people thought I had false lashes on.

Lipstick - Body Shop Lip Stain, with No 7 Lipstick on top. It was from the long-lasting range (Stay Perfect??). It was Velvet Dream anyway, and I wore Benefit lipgloss in Chaperone on top.

Foundation - No 7 mattifier, with Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation and MAC Blotting Powder on top. Only had to touch up with the powder once (and I have the oiliest skin you can imagine).

Bronzer - didn't use, but used Estee Lauder's creme blusher.

Former make up artist here (for a whopping 17 years, eek!!)

I advise all my brides to get Chanel's waterproof mascara. It's the only one I have found that goes on beautifully, and is actually waterproof. It does not move!

I just used a gorgeous foundation by Givenchy on my bride last weekend, it was something with the name photofinish or somerhing like that. It was really beautiful on the skin. I used Benefit's buffing powder and a bit of Benefit's hula for bronzing, with Nar's orgasm on the cheekbone. I only touched up her nose with powder after the ceremony before the shots at the church. The foundation seemed to hold up well. I was unsure about it, as it was something she had and wanted to use, but it was reallly nice.

As far as lips go, have you tried using something like Benefit's She-Laque over your lip liner and lipstick? Personaly, I tend to just use a tinted gloss on my bride's, but if you have a lip colour you like alot, I know She-Laque really does the trick to keeping it on.

    Best of luck!

The maybelline superstay lipsticks are really good and relatively reasonable. you put the colour on, let it dry, and then put a moisturising top layer, which needs topping up every few hours.

kelly29 - i've got really oily skin, so i'm going to go out and buy exactly the same things as you! how much was the EL foundation?

About £25??? Can't remember, but go and ask for a sample, as I found the one they gave me was sufficient for about 4 or 5 applications.

Thanks for all your replies! I'm going to go to my local Mac shop as a lady at work swears by their face primer and blusher, just need to check out other recommendations, thanks again xxx
