Help.... with seating plan

Jowheeler2b, 15 May, 2009 at 16:52 Posted on Planning 0 9

Hi,

Need to start arranging where everyone's going to sit for meal and just don't know where to start.

Want to mix people up and thankfully there isn't anyone who doesn't get on (I think/ I hope).

Any advice would be very greatly received

    Hi Jowheeler2b !

We have some advice and tips on organising your table plan on www.yourtableplan.co.uk both in terms of the table plan design and how to plan it ! I hope that this helps. The type of software that Spring has described can certainly help with planning the seating arrangements and would be worth trying. I hope all goes well Smiley smile

I let Mr SP do ours - after my many attempts that he turned his nose up to, he took over and mixed people perfectly without thinking 'too' much about it - as thats when its get complicated and thats where I went wrong. If you've no one who you couldn't possibly consider seating together/on the same table, just go for a lucky dip!!!

The less you think about it the better ...

    Hi Spring,

Thanks for the offer. Was hoping to make a start before then but if I get stuck I'll definately email you & test your planner

    Thanks Mrs Snow Patroller,

I think you maybe right. maybe its best just to not worry about it too much. They're not going to be sitting down for long are they

What i would do to start then is do the easy bit and decide on your top table (if your're having one).

Then move on to the people who you want to sit together. Do you want your Nan to sit next to someone she knows etc. Once you have done that then, as you said, you are happy to mix people up.

Check with your venue if they fit a certain number of people around a table as you will need to work around that.

Personally I would 100% rather sit with my partner and people I know at any social event as often you don't together with all your friends that often and it is for several hours for the meal, speeches etc. We sat all our friends and family together and then had one table with mixed couples who didn't really fit with any other group but all had things in common.

Our top table was us, our Mums, sisters & partners and the best men.

I thought the same Champagne and tried and tried to get all the 'kleeks' together ... but Mr SP totally disagreed saying its all about mixing up friends/family who don't know/often see each other rather than sitting a whole gang of mates on the same table who'd be down the pub in the same gang the next weekend. There wasn't one single table where there were folk who didn't get on and we really did throw them all together.

Couples were sat together - thats a must!!! ... by accident one couple had a 'stranger' placed between them as the hotel had set the place name tags incorrectly on the table and there was a guestzilla moment with the 'wife' who had a right strop until the 'stranger' cooly moved the name tag so she was sat with her husband.... <rolls eyes>

We did have a handful of folk who we knew we couldn't seat on the same table .... and we had no top table so we made sure we spread out the 'wedding party' across all the room as well so there was a good mix of family and friends. It really worked well and some people made proper new friends that day...
