Help with shapewear please

Ohwhatatuesday, 13 February, 2014 at 22:15 Posted on Planning 0 11

Ok everyone talk to me about shapewear! I need to get some before my next dress fitting - does anyone have any good brand recommendations? And what's the best sort? An all in one or shorts/knickers?

Also - how comfortable are they and do the dress/slip ones ride up at all? And how does the sizing work if they come with bras? I'm an odd size so worried this won't work.

Thanks in advance

I don't wear shapewear but I do know that it depends on your problem areas. If it's your stomach it may be best to wear one that goes right up to your bra so that it keeps everything smooth, otherwise you may have bumps caused by the elastic.

Some people don't mind wearing them and others don't like that they feel constricted and get hot from wearing them. It may be better for you try some out and see how you feel wearing them.

About the dress riding up, I would think it could depend on fit and the brand.

Wish I have actual experience of wearing one so that I could help you out, All of this is from what I've read on the internet.

I'm lucky that I don't need to wear a bra with my dress but I do need some help for my bottom half as my underskirt is quite fitted and I don't want lumps and bumps! I have tried several shorts (the type that start under your bust line and go half way down your thighs) and the best by far is by Gok. They don't roll down as the front is lightly boned and it holds everything in without it being uncomfortable and It was true to size too. Here it is, no, I'm not modelling it - I wish I had a bum like that!

I think you need to try some as everyone is different. But I love my Goks and they really make a difference with my dress x

I wear shapewear a lot. Have tried many different brands and types.

What has worked best for me are the shapewear tights from Marks and Spencer. They make ones with a very low denier count which I will be wearing on my day. They stay up and they smooth very well, they also make a version with a butt enhancer in them which I have tried, but..to be honest I don't need to enhance my backside anymore than it is..lol

Firstly love, you have a fab figure, do you deffo think you need shapewear? I find the short type roll down on me, but I think they will stay up on someone who's slimmer (like you!). I also second the range by Gok, it's very good. I think you should perhaps look at something with less support, just a light support long short.

ATB you are too kind but thank you. I tend to carry my weight around my stomach/bum and it looks a bit out of proportion and I have picked the world's most unforgiving dress! Is love to go without and will if I can tone up enough as I'm worried about it feeling constricting on top of a corset dress, but the inches I needed to lose don't seem to be shifting so I need a plan B. Maybe I'll try to look fir lighter support.

There's so much choice out there I was just looking for a few I could narrow down and try out - I'll give gok a go so thank you!

Hiya chick, I had Spanx (waist shorts type) they were very comfortable and even have a pee hole (i still giggle at that!) so you don't need to wriggle them off each time you go to the loo, although I would be surprised if I went more than twice the whole day...mind you I was so sure I wasn't drunk but all evidence suggests otherwise! Mine were a size C and generally I go from 10 to 14 uk size shop / style depending. I went to an independent shop and got her to sort me out Smiley smile hope that helps.

Oooh good call on the pee hole (makes me giggle too!) Very handy as would be a night mare to try and get them down otherwise. I hadn't though of that. I'll have a look at spanx too.

Hahaha I never expected a post on shapewear could make me laugh this much! I'm not sure I know what's funniest - thought of returning something for having a hole in it only to find out was a pee hole/ventilation or kjay using a ventilation hole to go to the loo! Or 'sweaty betty'! I'm adding that to my new hitched vocab along with pork sword and happy stick. I'm in fits of giggles here
