Help with to do list?

Nutella, 30 November, 2011 at 21:39 Posted on Planning 0 22

To all those lovely hitchers out there...sorry this post is so long (and not sure how the format will come out) but could really use some help with my to do list.

Is there anything I've missed?

Are the dates I've got in there about right?

Where I'm missing dates, any advice you can give on when is a good time to sort things would be really handy!!

Good one, i'll add it to my list... although i'm not sure i'm especially fussed on it... half thinking of having blue shoes or knickers anyway, but as for the old and borrowed bit i'm not sure what to do with this.... need to ponder!!

Aah, another uber organised Hitcher - makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside ?

Re: dress fittings dates, are you a fairly stable weight / size or do you tend to yoyo? Do you plan on losing weight (or putting any on!) for the wedding? This will affect how close to the wedding you want to get fittings sorted.

You need your veil / tiary before your hair, so aim to get that next Summer. I always think it's a good idea to have jewellery then, too.

Have you booked your tog? Would definitely make that a priority!

Wedding rings - are you likely to have them made especially? We're having ours made to order and have sorted the designs but they say they only take 3 weeks to make, so we're leaving it a bit closer to the time. We're getting married in less than 8 months, so nowhere near as much time as you've allowed!

You're welcome...I still have that niggly feeling I'm missing something crucial though! What do you have planned so far? 2013 is still a while away but I'm fairly concious that having allowed myself plenty of time to get everything planned I don't then want to end up rushing round at the last minute - and already since I have set the date the 4-ish months have flown by and I just know that in no time at all it will be 1 year to go!

Can't see you on the 2013 brides list yet, if you want to be added heres the thread Smiley smile https://www.hitched.co.uk/chat/forums/t/267778.aspx?PageIndex=1

Dress - it's being designed and made by a friend of a friend as a made to measure so my fittings will be a little different to 'normal' ones, I still need to find out from her the timescales on when we need to do stuff though *note to self - message her this weekend!* I'm not exactly on a diet or anything but I'd like to get back down to the curvy size 12 I was a year ago if I can....

Veil/tiara/jewellery - noted thanks, will start to think about this once the dress design is agreed.

Tog is booked I just forgot to update it on the to do list Smiley smile

Rings - planning to get from high st off the shelf but maybe with engravings, we've had a little look already but not bought yet, will look to get them ordered maybe oct/nov next year unless we see a good deal before then - do you think thats enough time?

    Thanks!

I haven't got much to add, but i am in awe of your to do list.

I sent all my invites out at once, is there a reason your doing these a month apart? more out of curiosity than anything else!

Your list has just terrified me Nutella! It seemed to take an age just to scroll past it! Our date is just over 2 months after yours and I am nowhere near as organised as you are.

Sorry to scare! I'm a bit OCD when it comes to planning and my job involves planning for events so I'm the opposite, if I don't have a list and know what I need to do when then I'm scared!

RKB - no special reason for sending the invites seperatley although I won't have much time to write them out before I need to get them in the post due to work so I figure best to get the day ones out sooner. Also gives me the chance to upgrade evening guests if I get no's back before I send those out without it looking like I'm upgrading them IYSWIM!

Just one thing, do you think you're giving enough time to book the DJ? We're using one provided by the venue, so I haven't looked into it, but I would assume that decent ones in the area would get booked up quicker? Just a thought.

I agree! However the DJ is one of OH's only jobs to do, he's got mates who are DJ's and I think he's going to ask the same guy who did his 30th party last year but he's insistant that theres no need to worry about this yet! IMO if he knows who he's going to ask then why not just ask them!!! So the to-do list date is the date by which he must have someone booked or I will just do it myself!!! Lol

Haha, fair enough. At least he knows some people that could do the job. I agree, he should ask now. I think it's just a man thing, OH is being the exact same way about picking his best man and I'm getting questioned by one of the potential guys constantly, about who he is going to choose. I think it's a man thing to drag their feet.

Extremely comprehensive list Nutella, I might just have to borrow some elements of it ?

I did notice you seem to have Gift for ushers & best man listed twice, once under 'Men' and once under 'Gifts'. Thought it might feel nice for you to take something off instead of having to add something on ?

    Great list!

    My small suggestions would be:

1- split the cake and topper into two separate tasks, you're likely to have two different suppliers for them (?) and you might get the topper well before you've made a final choice about your cake or vice versa!

2- just on the grooming/pampering pre-wedding... Perhaps think about putting on a reminder to get a haircut in the couple of days before the wedding? This is based on the assumption that your hair/make-up lady on the day isn't doing it? Ditto making an appointment to get your nails done in the run up, if that's what you plan!

3- as above but for the groom! If he is going to pop to a barber on the morning of the wedding, might be an idea to book it so he definitely gets in and out in time to be at the church!

4- other miscellaneous decorations? I know you probably don't need a reminder as such (as I've found I just tend to acquire wedding related stuff without prompt) but maybe add something to remind you to think about how you want your tables decorated if you are having anything beyond the floral arrangements?

This is all based on things I'm thinking about so feel free to ignore if irrelevant!
