Help! Work is making me gain weight!

Vintage84, 10 August, 2012 at 09:28 Posted on Beauty & Wellbeing 0 3

I need some serious help!

I work for a chocolate company and since I started a year ago I have gained around 9lbs! There is chocolate everywhere and I have the will power of a gnat! Now I know you're all going to say "OMG, dream job" but it is a total nightmare when I desperately don't want to be a chubby bride! I am very lucky that I gain weight evenly so no-one ever thinks I look fat but trust me, when I sit down I get one massive roll that start under my boobs and splurges over the top of my jeans! YUK!

So, how do I stop myself from eating at work? I use to do Slimming World (about 4 years ago I lost 3 stone and got down to a comfy size 10) so I know I'm supposed to eat healthy snacks etc. instead of choccy but the temptation is too big, I just can't get away from it!

I've started running, I go for 2 mile run/walks with a friend and I also walk my dog every day aswell but I'm just not shifting any weight.

HELP!

Thank you for your reply, I do need to bring more healthy snacks in to work, I'm just a bit fussy about what fruit & veg i eat (don't like tomatoes or bananas and only eat an apple if I cut it up).

I think it's more boredom than hunger, I am also one of those people that can graze all day without realising and then get to the end of the day and forget just how much I've packed away!

I will definitely try the 10 minute wait! Hell even I should be able to last ten minutes!

I had a similar problem in that I find temptation very hard to resist and if food is there, I eat it!

This is difficult for me because I wanted to lose weight but my OH was not bothered, so I couldn't just avoid having naughty snacks in the house, which would have made my life a lot easier! i got around it by telling myself that the naughty snacks belonged to M and were not mine. That small psychological step helped me to resist. As soon as I gave myself permission to eat them I was lost and the weight crept back on.

Perhaps you could tell yourself that the chocolate at work is for the other employees and not yours. I think in your position I would not be able to reduce consumption, I would have to go completely cold turkey, or perhaps just allow myself one on a Friday - I do something similar at home where we buy really expensive chocolates and have 3 each on each evening at the weekend only. That way during the week if I fancy some chocolate I can just tell myself that I can have it, just not until the weekend.

Hope some of this gives you some ideas if nothing else.

Hi, Asda do some mini packs of fruit aimed at kids, they're on a multibuy and contain sliced apples, apples & grapes, pineapple sticks etc-easy peasy and ready to eat :-)

I wouldn't deny yourself chocolate completely but why not have a small amount once a week as a treat,so you look forward to it? I think if you try and cut things out altogether you just crave them.

Another way to beat hunger is have a bigger breakfast, then a mid morning and mid afternoon healthy snack. little packs of raisins or a mix with a few nuts or dates if you have a sweet tooth.

    Good luck ! x
