HELP......rip in dress :-(

MrsW2b2016, 10 January, 2015 at 22:02 Posted on Planning 0 5

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can help me....

I bought my dress off the peg at the National Wedding Show from a shop in Beaconsfield. I tried it on while I was there then sent it off to one of my bridesmaids houses to look after for me. I went round tonight and got it out just to see it (as it's been months!) And we were looking over it and found 2 tears in the fabric :-( it's hidden under one of the creases and wouldn't have noticed if we hadn't been having a really thorough look. The tear is probably a good couple of inches long and if it got any worse would be visible.

My dress is Sincerity 3788 so think the material is satin (although now not sure!) - does anyone know how easily a seamstress will be able to fix this and how expensive this might be?

Also does anyone know where Sincerity dresses are made? The label inside says made in china?! I'm now worried that I bought a knock off! It does have a sincerity label on it....

As I bought it off the peg, sold as seen I obviously can't take it back - also I bought it back in September. Absolutely love my dress but SO gutted about the rip.

Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks ladies xxx

Awww hunni. Did you not fully check the dress before you bought it? Don't panic, I'm sure any good seamstress will be able to fix it no problem!

A good seamstress will sort something I'm sure.

apparently most dresses are made in china which partly explains the lead time-so I was told anyway.

We didn't even think to look that in detail at the dress, I'd tried it on a couple of times, she pointed out the flaws that she had seen (and she was the seamstress at the shop so not even sure she had seen them, as they're not obvious!) And then I took it away :-(

I hope it can be easily fixed and doesn't cost a fortune as we have such a tight budget.. xxx

I would try and contact the lady you bought it from anyway if possible, you have nothing to lose by giving it a shot. especially if the lady herself was a seamstress.

The majority of dresses are made in China/Hong Kong as fabric prices are lower and it's cheaper to be made. For the same dress handmade in the UK you can look to add around £2k minimum to the price tag - so please don't worry about that.

I would contact the shop you bought it from at the show and just explain and ask for their advice.

    Good luck!
