Hey just wondering if theres anyone who live in York......

I'me going to York Races for my hen do then plan on going for a meal after and some drinks, thought about ASK restaurant.....just wondering if anyone knows of any nice bars close by and how best way to get from races to centre.

I know York quite well for shopping but haven't been on a night out.

I recommend the Lamb and Lion or The Guy Fawkes Inn for food and beer! Love them both.

Had my mum's 60th here and they were amazing : http://www.delriosrestaurant.com/

OH's cousin just had her hen in York and it sounds like they had a brilliant time. They did cocktail making and went to a place called Oscar's wine bar, they also hit slug and lettuce and then a lovely tea room in the morning for hangover cures. (FB places stalking) I personally love Hotel 53, Piccolini and the Stones bar.

I agree that Oscar's is nice & good atmosphere. There are loads of good restaurants in town. If you do decide to go to Ask, it's near to bars anyway but not sure how it will be if there's a big group of you (atmosphere wise).

I don't venture into town often (drinking) these days & the pubs I'd go to are prob not the ones you'd want so can't really recommend but York is popular for Hen parties these days so I'm sure you'll find the lively spots!

    Have fun!!

Been thinking since I wrote last post...I did go to a works Christmas do at Ask. It was years ago but remember it was okay & there were about 20 of us so I reckon wherever you go for your meal, you'll have fun.

There are some nice wine bars, which are small but busy, off Stonegate (down all the snickets in the "Spanish Quarter"). Might be worth a visit. It depends what sort of pubs you want. For example, Flares can be good for a laugh if you like a bit of 60s/70s music & there's an 80s bar near there but I haven't been in it. There's another pub called The Stone Roses bar if you prefer indie stuff but I don't expect it's on the usual hen night route.

Regarding getting from the races into town. They do run shuttle buses. It's quicker to follow the crowds who walk but depends on your heels I'd say!

    Have great time!
