Hen do (Londoners or London Lovers help needed)

jen-lou, 25 November, 2013 at 15:21 Posted on Planning 0 19

Hi all,

(Just a little pre-note, me and the girlies have a couple of years to save for this so as long as the price isn't totally OTT alls good).

Friday was the first time i've managed to go out with the girls since I got engaged, and one of the first things that came up was the hen do (the girls have already told the boys that the hen do will beat the there's and ours will be better!), anyways, a trip to New York was mentioed, but i'm not sure on this, unless anyone has got any thoughts on what to do, whether it would be worth it for a short break let me know.

Anyways, I was thinking Paris for a couple of days with a stop over in London for a day/overnight and I was wondering other than the theatre, what could we do for one day/night in London, nothing too manic, I don't deal with hangovers, little sleep very well te he he, Londonders and London lovers your help is much appreciated (",) x

Lots and lots! Obviously there are bars and clubs everywhere but if that's not your scene you can do boat tours down the Thames or duck tours that goes around the city then into the Thames! London eyes good if you get a nice day, London dungeon if you like a few 'scary' laughs. Lots of the big hotels do afternoon teas which can be nice, there's shopping on Oxford street (or 2 westfields just outside of central)

Also the sanctuary spa is lovely right in covent garden so could head for dinner and drinks after. There's always loads of evening entertainment on the streets around there.

that sounds good, as do the boat tours. Not that keen on the duck tours, they have them up here (Liverpool) and they have sank a couple of times full of passengers ?

Depending on what time of year you could go to buckingham palace and then for afternoon tea - very touristy!! Or you could go to regents / hyde park. Have a huge picnic with lot's of drink and just have a nice chilled day then go out for dinner somewhere. Comedy clubs in London are brilliant. You really have so many options in London, just depends on what is you sort of thing

What time of year? In the summer there is open air theatre in Regent's Park or the open air cinema at Somerset House. Or you could do one of the markets if there aren't too many of you - Spitalfields, Borough, Portobello, Berwick St are all fab. The Southbank always has stuff going on and is good for mooching/people watching - last summer they had a fantastic pop-up garden bar with fairy lights, fairground rides and bands etc. Obviously there are all the big galleries/museums too - Tate Modern is excellent as is the V&A. Lots of the big hotels do afternoon tea which is v fun.

If it was me I would choose a really fabulous restaurant and base the rest of the day in the same area as one of London's (few?) downsides is all the schlepping about. If you are getting the Eurostar in the morning I guess you will be getting a hotel close to St Pancras? In which case during the day you could do shopping/coffee & cake in Clerkenwell or Angel followed by drinks at the St Pancras champagne bar, then dinner at the Gilbert Scott http://www.thegilbertscott.co.uk/restaurant/ Or if you wanted a more structured activity you could go to Drink,Shop & Do in King's Cross http://www.drinkshopdo.com/Drink,_Shop_%26_Do/Drink,_Shop_%26_Do_%E2%80%94_Cafe_Bar_Kings_Cross.html

There is really so much to choose from in London, you can pretty much do anything.

If you like wine (and who doesn't?!), then Vinopolis do a lovely party package where you learn about wine tasting. It's really close to Borough Market. Great restaurant nearby called Roast. And The Shard is round the corner too.

I second Foo's suggestion of going to the champagne bar at St. Pancras if you're going on the Eurostar. We went about this time last year and it felt very special having a couple of champagne blini's in the bar before we hopped on the train!

London and Paris does sound amazing! I work in London and it is true that there are endless possibilities for things to do! Top non-drunken activities for me on a hen do would be either a luxury picnic in one of the royal parks followed by champagne on the eye and then dinner and cocktails somewhere amazing, or in more inclement weather perhaps afternoon tea at the ritz, a show matinee or spa at the Sanctuary followed by dinner and cocktails! In winter there are ice rinks at Somerset house and Broadgate Circle too. Loads of great restaurants and hotel in London, it just depends on your budget and the Area you want to stay in. And Paris is amazing! I'd save the shopping and coffee/cake for that part of the trip!

This may sound a stupid question, but can you but "pre-made"picnics for this?

Thanks for all the suggestions, it'll most probably be in the spring/early summer that we will be doing this as the wedding will be late summer. It's still a while off (2016) but I'm slightly OCD when it comes to organising things (I blame my job!) I was planning my 30th birhtday party for about 4 years te he he ?

What about afternoon tea in a nice London hotel? The Lanesborough is next to Hyde Park so there's some fun to be had there as well if it's summer and the weather is good! Otherwisely I'd say book a theatre show. Those are my non drinky ideas!

How about drinks (or dinner) at the top of the Shard - 35 floors up and an amazing view.

I am pretty sure there would be somewhere that would do a hamper for you but you can pre-order lovely stuff from Waitrose and M&S, or Paul in London, have lovely sandwiches, savoury pastries and cupcakes perhaps? There is Hummigbird or Lola's that you can buy trays of lovely cupcakes from. Making myself hungry!

I am planning a Sanctuary Spa day followed by dinner out. Should be great fun! Trying to decide on a relaxed restaurant.
