Hen party

An update on the hen do issue

My MOH and i were chatting and she think if we did a hen house party and everyone came to hers and we did it this way would be good as no one wouldfeel pressured into a whole weekend or expensive night and i feel more relaxed with the idea.

Im just worried that it will be boring. If you googlehen do's all kind of weird and wonderful things come up and ive been to hen dos before which are a constant stream of activity and im worried mine will be a bit naff. Ive never been to a hen do in someones house before so have no inspiration to steal.

Do people thinkthisis a goodor bad idea? Also, any advice and ideas to stop it being dullwouldbe greatly appreciated. Most of my friends dont know each other so im concerned there will be lots of awkward silences Smiley sad

Hmm. I think it will work fine, but are you gonna plan activities? Are you cooking dinner, or maybe a takeaway? What about hiring a karaoke machine, or one of those Singstar type console games? Maybe a quiz or some party games? The problem with house parties is there is no escape route, as opposed to maybe a bar or club where people can just wander off for a bit if they feel like it, so you need to keep people entertained. Also some of these things will (hopefully!) serve as bonding if some of the guests don't know each other.

I think that sounds lovely. You don't need to do all of those things, just hang out, have a chat, some drinks and food and some music and just have a nice time! A 'traditional' hen do would be going out to the pub so drinking at home isn't much different to this.

It is difficult to make suggestions without knowing what the house is like, but when I have planned small 'gatherings/parties' I have tried to keep the kitchen and lounge area as separate so people can wander around and chat to other people.

If you would like to plan some activities then I'm sure your MOH would do this. Ask her to organise some things to encourage people to get to know each other. Thiws is your MOH's role in the wedding, and you shouldn't have to worry about it too much. You could get sing star out if you are into this - always good fun. You could do some sort of pampering at home - doing nails etc?

For my hen do we will be away in the middle of no where just hanging out, cooking a meal and then having drinks. So not much different to a house party really and I think it will work fine.

Not sure what happened on my last attempt at replying!

I think it will be lovely, esp if you do as others have suggested and plan one or two things.

My hen do was quite possibly the least hen-ish thing ever, apart from the fact we were at a hotel with free spa, as we just chilled out!

I think it could work, maybe you could hire butlers in the buff to serve drinks or chuck in an Ann Summers party to make it more Hen-ish! x

We hired a house for my friends Hen do, we did pizza making in the day then came back to the house for the rest of the day until the next morning.

We had a lady come and do mini spa treatments and had other activities too.

To be honest we could have saved the money on the hire of the house and had it at someones house, it wouldn't have made any difference at all. I would much prefer to go to house party for a hen do.

I hired a house for my hen for Fri-Mon. The only time we left the house was for a pub lunch on Sunday. We had food, lots of wine, my friends organised a Mr & Mrs quiz and a general pub quiz and there was a 'wedding dress competition' (teams had kitchen foil, toilet paper and tape to make a wedding dress for someone to wear). This was all on the Saturday evening - it was brilliant.

We did have a pool and hot tub too but that's because we were there all weekend. There was ample stuff to fill an afternoon and evening with the stuff above.

What are you planning to do for the party. If your MOH’s house has a big backyard or something maybe you can organize some games. For the hen party for one of my friend living in Mississauga there was casino games. She got casino game rentals from Superior Events and we had a gala time at there. So maybe you can look into something like that so that there won’t be any awkward moments and everyone can enjoy at the party. Even if the party is being conducted indoors you can add some games in between to spice it up.

I think it sounds lovely. Like others have said, plan some activities and it wont be borning! Could hire a couple of beauticians to offer treatments? Cocktail making? Fun hen do games?
