Hen party ideas

Mrs-Riley, 9 May, 2015 at 14:53 Posted on Planning 0 9

So, I've had it mapped out in my head for the past six months that I wanted to go a spa weekend for my hen do, because I don't really like to drink that much anymore, so wouldn't enjoy night clubs and things like that.

Then this morning, when finalising what date would be best with my sister, she blurts out that she's 7 weeks pregnant and wouldn't be able to go to a spa in August like I'd planned because she wouldn't be allowed in saunas and jacuzzis or use any of the essential oils - she's being extra cautious due to past problems in pregnancy.

That's all fair enough, but now I'm really struggling with what I'd like to do - as I want my sister involved. And I can't ask anyone else about it because I can't tell them my sisters pregnant.

As we all live in opposite directions, it would be good to meet somewhere like Manchester or Leeds, but I can only spend £100 on my own participation.

Does anyone have ideas? I thought maybe afternoon tea, shopping then a nice meal but didn't think this was very exciting.

Couldn't you delay your hen until next year after your sister has given birth? If the wedding isn't until August 2016 you could have it around this time next year?

It depends on what you like doing but I am planning on going to Leeds Grand Theatre or Sheffield Lyceum to see a matinee performance of a touring musical and then go for a nice meal afterwards.

I went to a spa in a hotel for my hen do with a night out and two of my friends were pregnant. The package included use of the facilities and two mini treatments (as well as meals and overnight stay). The pregnant ladies had a swim and then had the treatments. Think they went for manicure, pedicure and a foot and lower leg massage from memory. Can you try to get a package like this as a compromise? Think my sister got it through groupon and was very reasonable.

Meant to say - both my friends were super careful. Both had previously lost babies so we were taking no chances!

Any reputable spa would have pregnancy friendly options, include a pregnancy massage using plain oils. She could still have a pedicure/manicure/hair, facial, go for a swim etc. Just because she cant sit in the sauna/Jacuzzi shouldn't restrict her!

Afternoon tea, shopping, and dinner sounds like a great day to me...tho if that has to include a hotel stay you might find your budget won't stretch to all three activities? I had a crafty hen hen do knicker customisation class, with afternoon tea supplied by me, with lots of prosecco. One of the hens was about 5 months pregnant so made sure she had plenty of sparkling soft drinks and juices, my BM organised some silly games, n then we spent the evening playing games like twister n cards against humanity, it was ace! And everyone enjoyed it. I did initially worry a little that it might be boring but knew I didn't want a clubbing do, but we all had a great time, n because I did it at my house it only cost £40 per person (plus travel expenses for those that had to get the train down) it was a really nice way for everyone to be able to meet each other n chat. As an aside, You probably know this already but if you did have your heart set on a spa day you still could, there's lots of mum to be friendly treatments your sister could have, and she could just relax, drift about in the pool, could still be enjoyable even without the stuff she couldn't do?( Tho it's understandable if she's a bit cautious about anything n it's nice that you're taking her into consideration) or a half day spa followed by dinner out?

I went to my friends hen while 8 months pregnant at a Spa and had a lovely time!

I went for a nice swim, enjoyed lunch, sat on the edge of the jacuzzi with my legs inside and had some lovely facials, pedicures and manicures!

Is there anyway she could do any of that? Smiley smile

We did afternoon tea in Leeds as part of mine at a vintage tea room and they were absolutely lovely and went out of their way to make it so special.

I definitely recommend doing that! You can all get smart- casual dressed up and you will definitely feel like a bride Smiley smile
