Hen weekend planning - HELP!!!

weekender, 23 October, 2009 at 20:13 Posted on Planning 0 4

Hiya,

bridesmaid here looking for inspiration for my sister's hen weekend. She's only just got engaged but getting married in January so wants her hen weekend at the end of November, not leaving me much planning time!

There's a couple of pregnant girls that she'd like to come so I was thinking that getting a cottage or something somewhere might be a good idea, especially cost-wise with it being short notice and getting close to Christmas, and also means it's a bit more relaxed for those that aren't in a fit state for a wild night out! :-)

Anyone got any suggestions? We're near Glasgow but willing to travel a few hours to get to where we need to be!

Thanks - any help appreciated

Claire xx

How about a spa weekend? My friend did this for her hen weekend and loved it...

My sister's hen weekend was in November two years ago and we hired a cottage in the Lake District - not sure if that's too far away.

You'll find that with it being 'out of season' the prices should be fairly reasonable and we got 3 nights for about £100 per person which is far cheaper than a hotel. There were 8 of us including our mum, my sisters future MIL, her uni friends and our cousin - so a real mixed bag - and it suited everyone.

The cottage hire also came with use of the spa facilities at a nearby country clunb for £11 per day!

If you want any more info just shout!

    Hi Susan

That sounds perfect, could you send me the details?? Was it close to a village/town, what did you get up to during the day/night etc? I looked at a few and couldnt find any that would really suit - "no noise" etc.....it's not exactly a wild crowd going but don't want to be worrying about music being a bit loud or anything!

    Thanks

    Claire

    Hi Claire,

Hopefully you got my email with the details of the cottage but if not just click here.

We arrived on the Friday evening and I had ordered some food from M&S that just needed to go in the oven (I added a bit on to each hen's bill to cover the cost of the food) and we all sat down to a fairly hassle free dinner with some bubbles. I also picked up some croissants, pastries and fruit too for breakfast the next day.

On the Saturday we planned to go on a boat on the lake but the weather was horrible so we headed went to Beatrix Potter's house and then to the Lakeland shop in the town as it was indoors and we could keep dry. Not exactly rock and roll but everyone loved looking around! We also had lunch in the cafe there.

When the rain cleared we went for a wander around the town and then headed back for a relaxing afternoon of pampering and getting ready to go out. I had put together goodie bags for everyone with things like fake tan, makeup wipes, toothbrush, nail varnish, can of pop, chewing gum etc. so I gave everyone these.

My sister had requested nothing tacky like 'L' plates as she didn't want to be the centre of attention to much when we went out. I just got her a little tiara to wear and I also made everyone badges using pictures of my sister when she was growing up - not too embarassing. Also to prove I wouldn't do anything to here that I wouldn't mind having done to me I gave her a badge with a baby picture of me on it! (I'm hoping she remembers how kind I was when it comes to my turn).

Saturday night we went out for dinner I can't remember the name of the restaurant - sorry! but we had a nice private-ish table in the upstairs dining room. I also asked everyone for £20 before we arrived to cover some of the cost of dinner so I wasn't having to ask for lots of cash from everyone during the weekend.

On Sunday some of us had to head home (me included as I had to drive back down to London) but some of the other girls stayed another night.

I'm sure there is plenty more to do in Windermere (and nearby Ambleside) than what we did. There are plenty of small restaurants cafe's and pubs but to be honest after dinner on the Saturday night we just went home for some more girlie chats in our PJ's with some nice wine.

Hope this all helps and you find something suitable for you all.

Any more questions just let me know.

    Susan x.

The spa weekend would be a fabby idea, its actually what iam doing for mine in july!! but if you do go for that option be aware that there will be some things that the pregnant ladies wont be able to do, such as using the sauna and some massages (when using essential oils) etc,

I hope you have a great time whatever you decide to do for her x
