Rest in Peace indeed. Without men like him our lives would all be very different - whether you agree with war or not they went through so much on our behalf.

    Rest in Peace.

What an amazing man. A life that spanned three centuries, born when Queen Victoria was on the throne; what changes he must have seen during his lifetime!

A quite remarkable man, may he rest in peace indeed ☹️

I read his biography last year, the changes he has witnessed in the world must have been amazing.

It's funny because he was apparently a virtual recluse up until he was 100 ? because he was depressed without his wife and his ever increasing age. The WW1 veterans society got in touch with him and despite some reluctance at first he came to love the company and visits around the UK and Europe talking to people from children to adults about his experiences during the wars.

    xx

May he rest in peace, he came across as a very dignifed and remarkable gentleman. We all owe him and those of his generation a great deal.

Cigarettes, alcohol and wild women - if there's a heaven I am sure he will enjoy all three there!

    RIP ?

Amazing to realise he's known 6 monarchs in his lifetime.

An outstanding man. I was saying to H how sad that his wife died in 1970 - so 29 years a widower and he outlived both his children

We owe men like him a heck of a lot
