I've been religiously watching every update since yesterday lunchtime, wondering if I should go and bunk down at work overnight to avoid the snow. The BBC website forecast for my area changed from Heavy Snow to Sleet to Cloud during the course of the evening and the map on the local news at 10pm showed the M5 corridor from north of Bristol up to Cheltenham as clear, so I thought I'd be ok. Glanced outside at midnight to see a blizzard. Hmph.

I'd probably be ok if I could get to the main road but I either have to go up a steepish ungritted road or down a steepish ungritted road to get there, with a tight bend and loads of parked cars whichever way I go. Why didn't I move the car yesterday evening? Ah yes, that's right, because there was no snow then and none forecast for this particular area, according to two different sources. Pah. I'm usually a confident driver..... except during snowy or icy conditions, after a near collision with a car somebody had abandoned on a blind bend. Not sure I love my job enough to try to get there, to be honest. There's no public transport which can get me to work for my 7am shift and I'm certainly not walking 15 miles. I'd have to set off now. ?

    I'd quite like a 4x4 right now, actually. ?

Oh dear Hooby, sounds like a 4x4 would be ideal right now. I'd be inclinded to sod it, but its not my job!

I'll see what it's like at 5.30am which is when I would set off in these conditions. Trouble is, if I don't get in and my colleague coming from the other direction doesn't get in, there'll be nobody to cover our work which could be problematic as Friday is the busiest day of the week for us. Mind you, they coped during the floods when few people could get in although I actually got stuck at work the first night and I don't want to have to do a double shift again. I certainly don't love my job enough for that! ?

I didn't sleep much on Wednesday night as I wasn't feeling well so I slept on and off throughout Thursday. If I go to sleep now I'll never wake up in time for work so I'll just push on through and catch up tomorrow night.

I've put my emergency kit in the car (blanket, shovel, food and drink) and just cleared 4-5 inches off the car. The snow's still coming down but it's quite wet so it might be ok to travel later. I might phone work and say I'll set off when it gets lighter as the gritters should have done their job by then. I think they've been waiting until early morning because salt supplies are so low and they can't risk having to re-grit if it thaws then freezes during the night.

Or I might just say Sod it and take annual leave! ?

Am in the NE of England, our snow lasted exactly one day, woke up on tues and it was gone! Am pretty sure we didn't order it for today, but it came anyway, can't believe the white out! It wasn't like this at midnight!

OK, sod that for a game of soldiers! I couldn't get any traction trying to pull away and nearly slid into a neighbour's car into the bargain... and that was on a straight stretch of road. ? Then I took a little walk down the hill to find that the surrounding roads haven't been gritted yet, not even the one the hospital is on. No way am I pointing my car down a steep hill in the hope that I can stop at the bottom at the traffic lights. Yep, I'm a wuss but not feeling in total control of the car scares me witless (or words that rhyme with that ?).

The snow is starting to turn to sleet so hopefully it will start to thaw a little later on.

    Hooby the Pathetic. ☹️

Just spoke to my colleague who made it in after a hair-raising journey from Gloucester on mostly ungritted roads. She's never driven in these conditions before and said she was shaking by the time she got there, bless her. So there's at least one person from my shift at work today! She said she won't be doing it tomorrow though if conditions are the same. Fingers crossed for a thaw today so that at least one of us can get to work tomorrow morning...

I think we've had a sprinkling overnight but not much. For the first time this week I'll be working from home but thats becuase dragging myself to work and then working all day in a portacabin (it's an office but still in a dammed portacabin) with broken heating has taken it's toll and I feel quite ill ☹️

I am near birmingham and when I got up at six there was no new snow and clear roads, now there is tonnes of the stuff! Thankfully I have no work and the schools are closed, but my husband is stuck in birmingham and said he has had the worst journey ever and he is a very confident driver and usually gets frustrated with my anxiety at drive in in a light fliurry! but has said not to travel at all.

It's started coming down heavy in Norf Issix again, the snow is settling on top of the ice so it's going to be a death trap. Am SO peed off, I had lovely plans for this weekend and there's no way I'll get into London with the buggy when it's like this.

It's just sprinkling down now in Nuneaton - but it's only light. It isn't forecast at all though - very odd!

My school is closed again today as the head and caretaker said the site is too icy and slippy and we'd have too many accidents. I'm getting bored now though, and could do with being in really with parents evening next week!

When MrSun got up at 4ish he said it was ok, I got a shock when I got up and realised it wasn't, the cars are slipping all over the road and it's like a blizzard out there. Hole's right, it'll have frozen any slush and then snow on top. Trecherous. Another snow day for us today, MissSun's swimming was cancelled, not that I had any intention of taking her, she's got a stinker.

the birmingham webcams indicate that the roads are clear and the motorways too. in fact all around the outskirts too - the only one thats not clear is the redditch webcam.

I'm proper snowed in this morning, and feeling quite pathetic ? I knew the roads would be bad so pursuaded my husband to work from home. I walked down the bus stop, only to be told that all buses were returning to the depot and all services were cancelled. If it wasn't for the fact that it was a full on blizzard at that point I may have considered walking in, but then I would have had to do the return journey at midday!

The road conditions really are awful though, the dual carriage way was chocca, with traffic moving at about 5mph. I don't think they've gritted at all around here apart from the A419.

I just spoke to my boss, and he got in via the motorway but he was very good about it and said it really was't worth struggling in for half a day. There is a bacon roll on my desk though from the undergrad, so I'll have to email him in a minute and see if he can find a volunteer to eat it ?

I'm in Bristol and its really bad, much worse than yesterday. I just drove in as I had to drop my H to work and it took me an hour to do a 10 minute journey, ended up parking in the first car park I passed and walked in, its very slippy and slidy outside, lorries are stopped everywhere as they cant get up the hills!! I wish I was't at work and could go out and play!!!!!!!!

Bristol is at a standstill again, no roads gritted and it is blizzard conditions in some parts. We are in the East & on top of a hill, they have warned drivers to avoid the M4 & M5 as they are horrendous. My Daughter just rang & managed to get into the centre but there are no buses, trains or flights out of Bristol. As soon as a car drives down the road it is covered again as the snow is coming down so heavy.

I am in Buckinghamshire and it's awful again - my school has only opened one day this week and it seems all schools in Bucks are closed today. I am bored of it all now and would rather be at work.
