Heya! (with flashy)

kittykatkat, 12 November, 2012 at 21:44 Posted on Planning 0 22

Hiya! I'm not really that new, been perusing this site for a little while now, but thought I'd introduce myself. Am getting married in June next year, live in mid-wales. Flashing my dress below - it's at the seamstress atm, but cant wait to try it on when it fits properly! Just wondering what veil you guys think goes best with it? (sorry if pics are huge!)

Eeeeeek I freaking love it. I also like the top veil! Would love to see a pic of you wearing it when you try it on. Beautiful x

Was thinking of a birdcage one, so really happy you mentioned that! Been eyeing the first veil for the last two months too. I just think it's abit too white to go with my dress.

Been drooling over this one as well (I can never make my mind up), but it's quite expensive (although both xmas and my bday is coming up!)

Oh *edit Thought I'd mention that I'm borrowing my mums pearl necklace and earrings...so I'm abit concerned what to have cause I don't want to be OTT

The dress is stunning, you don't want anything to detract from that. Would say first one, and suggest you keep it no longer than shoulder length. Birdcage sounds like good idea.

I think no veil would lok best, but if you want one then would definitely go bird cages. The head piece is stunning, but as it is quite close to her ears, pearl earrings might look a bit much or get lost. Obviously you won't know until you try.

    Hi,

Your dress is very pretty. I think a little birdcage one would be cute. I have some fascinator hairbands with little birdcage veils, which you might like. A short veil would also look pretty with mabe a vintage style band.

    Hope that helps

I wanted a birdcage veil with my dress but actually I ended up with a elbow length standard one as it looked better with my dress.

Yours is quite detailed across the top as was mine so you may find that having the birdcage together with the dress may be too much? Only real way is to try these things on and see how they go together?

However I have to say there is no way on earth I could wear my wedding dress agin fater the day, tea length or not! It's a wedding dress! Not some old thing from top shop!

Thanks girls! Def given me food for thought - I'm hoping to be able to try the dress on with the pearls - that should give me a better idea of how it will look - I'll try and remember to take a pic too! Smiley heart

Yea, don't think I'll be able to wear it after the wedding for anything else - it'll either stay in the wardrobe or sell it tbh. And I don't tend to attend events that warrant such a nice dress anyway! Pic really doesn't do it justice, the gold embroidered flowers look so much nicer IRL.

I adore the blusher veil - the length works well and the softness of that tulle compliments the dress. Not sure what to suggest about colour though.

Ps. Totally stunning dress, well Jel.

I got my dress online from vintageous: http://www.vintageous.com/vintageweddingdress.htm

    (it's on there somewhere)

People think I'm nuts cause I bought it without trying on any dresses - but I just fell in love with it!

Hiya, someone mentioned this thread to me and suggested I might want to flash you my headpiece.. So, here goes:

Basically I fell in love with a super expensive jenny packham headpiece, but couldn't afford it, and ended up having it recreated by Andrea @ Westlake Jewellery Designs (http://www.themodernvintagebride.co.uk).

So I guess my point is that I would definitely go with the really cool head piece instead of a veil. I don't think veils would really suit your dress (though a birdcage could potentially).

Do let us know what you decide in the end!

Not nuts, I bought my dress after hating everything that I tried on in shops. I bought it direct from the dressmaker via eBay and hadn't seen it irl before it arriving at my house!

Pluckily it was amazing when it turned up!

It's another case of partial recreation - I fell in love with a super expensive dress (~£10k), bought the basic dress in satin from BHS (~£200!), some beautiful lace, and have a dressmaker adding tulle to the skirt and creating the lace bodice as a removable bolero type thing!

ETA I don't know why it's making all my photos square! link to photo: http://hitchedukst.s3.amazonaws.com/Fashion/Bridalwear/images/1_327_4759B2020PutYourselfInMyPlace.jpg

I love it! Can't wait to see how it turns out (and with the beautiful headpiece too). I think I'm swaying towards the headpiece now...?

Welcome along kittykatkat Smiley smile your dress is fab,

I'd love to see it with a simple (but gorgeous of course!) birdcage or headpiece. As others have said you don't want to detract attention from the dress too much and the pearls sound lovely.

I'm not a fan of headpieces but that is lovely!! If you're wearing your mums pearl earrings perhaps just try having one pearl earring in the other ear and having the one with the headpiece over it bare, otherwise it will look OTT. It'll look quirky but still very modest Smiley smile

I love the first veil, but perhaps instead of a veil, have netting??

That way it could potentially compliment the dress rather than be netting overkill.
