Hey Victoria. Congratulations on your engagement and welcome to the world of wedding planning at Hitched!!! You'll get loads of ideas and help on here from the girls.

First thing I'd do is try to work out a rough budget of what you'll have to spend, think about the number of guests you'd like and start looking for a venue. When are you planning to get married and where?

Hi Vicky, I live in Middlesbrough so quite close to you.

Congratulations on your engagement and I hope you enjoy your wedding planning - this forum is a big help. I've been engaged less than a month so still a newbie to it all aswell. The first things I did were set a date, budget, book a reception venue, church, cars and photographer. I think these are the things that get booked well in advance so the more notice you give, the more choice you have!

Have you any idea when you want to get married and do you want a church, hotel or registry office wedding?

    Kate

Florists also get booked up really quick, so maybe an idea to look at that too hun!

Congratulations on the engagement and welcome to Hitched! x

Hi there, best start with venue and church. Programmes like don't tell the bride are good, bcause apart from being entertaining you can actually see a bit of the planning process. (although you never see them book a photographer, probably don't need one)

Hi from one Vicki to another. Welcome to hitched and congratulations on your engagement.

You will get loads of advice on here so just shout.

In terms of where to start I think most of it has already been said. First a rough budget and then your where and when you are getting married, how you want in your wedding party and then your colour scheme. Everything else then falls into place.

Congrats hun, Think about the style of wedding you want, go to wedding fairs to get some ideas, you really need to think about the date and budget to see what time scale that gives you for planning and saving!! Numbers of guests then like the other girls have said, the venue and if you are getting married in a church you need to speak with the minister to arrange that if you are getting having a civil ceremony you will need to book the registrar (£29) and then you are able to give your notice no more than a year before your chosen date (the notice lasts for 12 months from the day you give it). the tog entertainment and florists are often the first to get booked up so if there is something you really want then go for it asap (but dont make rash descisions you may regret!).

I had booked pretty much everything for my wedding by April, more to try and secure a good price and get the things i wanted on the day we had chosen.

One last tip if you ever need us we are here so drops us a line good or bad!!!

    Good-luck and happy planning!! x

    Hi and welcome to Hitched.

Firstly you need a serious chat about your budget, you can't get ideas until you work this out. Then think when you want to be married, better of thinking year and season rather than a specific date. Then where, church, hotel, registery office, castle, beach, or where ever! Rough number of people (add your family and friends up that you'd definately invite and it will be a lot more than you think!) so you can start looking for venues within your budget.

    Thanks Kate

Congratulations to you too. We are thinking of maybe 2012 or 2013. I definately want a church wedding in Sunderland which is where I am from but that is about as it. Just a bit overwhelmed by the whole thing at the minute.

Congratulations!! You will soon be v v addicted to Hitched! It was a great help when I organised my wedding back in 2007.

The first things we thought about was time of year (we ended up going for a wintery wedding in December), type of wedding, eg church of civil ceremony, venue and budget. If you're going to have a honeymoon and have your heart set on a certain destination or have a few ideas, perhaps look into whether it is the best time of year there weather wise when you get married.

    Happy hitching and welcome!
