Hi, getting married at Slaley Hall next year, any other Slaley brides out there?

gonnaBMrsF, 7 March, 2012 at 11:02 Posted on Planning 0 34

Hi,

thought i'd get my first post on here as i'm on the site all the time! I got engaged on New Yrs Eve 2011 to my partner of 8 years.

I live in Northumberland and when looking at venues I was really worried as there was nothing i was 'falling in love with', until I went to Slaley Hall!

We have our provisional booking for Oct 2013, it's not soon enough for me but the day after our wedding we will wake up 10 years to the day we got together! ?

How is everyone's planning going, any tips or advice?

Nice to meet you all

xx

    Thanks,

the venue has a lot of dark purple so may go for that or teal, sure i'll change my mind a few times before making my decision though!

I have so many thoughts and i'm constantly online but feel that it may be too early to start getting excited? You haven't got long until your big day!

It is really exciting loving all the planning & ideas since its a winter wedding i think i'm going to go with a really deep purple & with Slaley having that colour scheme in some of the rooms it will all tie in. i wasnt going to get my dress so soon just went for a look & fell in love so thought why keep looking if i love everything about it.

I'm getting married at Slaley Hall too! I had the same issue as you in that I couldn't find a venue I fell in love with at all until I drove over to Slaley and I was in love! I'm getting married there in March 2013 sooo excited!

I am going for a teal colour scheme as I thought this would fit in there quite well.

    How's your planning coming along?

One bit I'm stuck on is what to call the table's?!

    xxx

    Hi Rachel,

think we're going to name the tables after places that are special to us. Not that long to go for you! Do you have most things sorted then? Teal will look lovely! x

    Hello Ladies

I got married at Slaley on the 28th August 2011 - it was amazing! The day went so well, food was fab and everyone commented on how great it was.

Let me know if I can be of any help with anything!

Thanks Rebecca! I love the food there, can't wait to have our tasting ? did you have chair covers? I can't quite decide whether I need them or not as the chairs are neutral x

    No problem!

We had the chicken liver pate, raspberry sorbet, the lamb and then sticky toffee pudding - yummy!

We we had quite a few docrations through Dandy - we had chair covers with navy sashes, the sparkly curtain for the top table and behind, table runners, cocktail tables set out for the evening, charget plates, ivory roses on the champagne glasses, napking ties in the same colour and some other bits. Must admit the chait covers really did set the ceremont and wedding breakfast room off - looked fab! Dandy was expensive but for us worth it for the finished effect.

Which suppliers have you guys gone for? xx

Mmm that menu sounds delicious, i love lamb!

We haven't made a decision on decorations yet as there's so much to decide on it's hard to know where to start. Think I will shop around for chair covers etc to see if I can keep costs down. Would love to see some photos if you don't mind flashing!

We have our menu tasting in December, cannot wait! far too much to choose between though.

Dress is the one thinkg that I do have sorted, bought an amazing Ian Stuart dress and have my first fitting in 3 weeks time!! Have you started looking for yours?

We have gone for chair covers as the pictures she showed me looked amazing with them. Having chair covers, table runners, napkin ties, favour bags and top table bits through Dandy. The Slaley Hall florist is doing all my table flowers and top table arrangements and then my friend is doing mine and my bridesmaids posies.

All I seem to have got organised so far are my flowers, the bits that Dandy are doing, my dress and my photographer! So much still to do!

    xx

Ooh Rachel give us a flash of your dress! Ian Stuart dresses are lovely and I like that they're a bit different! I've been to a few dress shops so far and I'm going to Rosina Brown in December and a shop in Blagdon. Hoping I find something! x

Already married, but I live 2 miles from Slaley Hall, and just wanted to say lovely venue, make sure you have pictures in the Japanese Gardens, the in house florist is a friend of the family and is awesome you will have no worries with her. Also Rosina Brown for your dresses is a really good place to go, I couldnt fault her, but I will say she will tell you straight and if she dosent like you in something she will say....

I have heard this about Rosina Brown but think I need someone to tell me straight! my mam is the worst for saying everything is lovely!

I met Gwen, the florist at the last wedding fayre and she is lovely and very helpful. Seeing as you live nearby, are there any places you would recommend for my guests to stay if they wanted a cheaper alternative to Slaley? A guest house or local pub maybe? thanks

Rosina is lovely and she only means well, but beware she will tell you straight to the point, at the end of the day you in a dress from her shop is good advertising so she wants you to look a million dollars, which I'm sure you will.

The Travellers Rest Pub at the other end of the village is nice, but books up quick there isnt loads of rooms, you also have the Beaumont in Hexham. There are few in Corbridge to, like The Angel.

Gwen is awesome, she is so full of life, she helped with some of my flowers and after preparing for a wedding all day at Slaley Hall came to my evening do in here gold sequin jacket and danced the night away.
